X2 (but I guess it's easier the sell the more expensive one in a one and done sale)

You can always get another in the future

Not at all silly man!! You have your priorities in order but it's always hard to part with a prized possession. Hopefully in the future you can buy another or maybe even find another grail to save up for once you're settled in your house. Good gesture towards your family's future. Well done!

No better time to buy a house, so, in 20 years when it's worth twice what you paid, you'll be in a position to reacquire it.

x100 ..... it was your grail. Not many get their grail and if they do I would think it would take precident over all other watches otherwise was it really a grail? Good luck with the house hunt.

p.s. that dial rocks

I would have sold some investments ....

my thoughts. wives can and 6-10 come and go but that watch would have lasted forever....

I applaud the decision you have plenty of watches to "scratch the itch" and you'll get that watch back and then-some in the future

I will have to say, that dial is amazing, I had never seen it before....

You have good taste I and I like your daydate! I would also be sad to let it go but what is done is done. I just hope you find that perfect house for you and your family do not settle for an average house since you sold your holy grail watch.

with 9 others in your stable, i would not feel sad at all. gotta do what you gotta do and you clearly still have many to have fun with.

if it was your only one, then i would speak differently. but that is clearly not the case.

It's OK to be sad, but in my opinion you did the right thing. If you are at a point in your life where you need to sell some assets to acquire others, that's OK. Rolex made lots of watches, but you only have one family. Good luck.

Agreed with all the other posters, can see why it is a sad experience & I'm sure I would feel the same way initially. With that said, you're definitely doing the right thing & putting your family first. A home & taking care of your family is the easy number one priority. Good luck!

Thanks all, for your kind words.

I am sad, but at the same time excited if I can pull this off and work it into a house.

I may very well sell off some of the other Rolexes as well. Some of the others I will keep because they are just not worth that much for re-sale. Exp I, older style Y SN sub date....

Some of the DJs I may list to see if I can get a fair buyer.

But the question is fair, why not sell the rest and keep the grail? Have thought about that all day. In part it is because I could get the most for the DD in one transaction. But also because the grail was not, nor did I invision it as a daily wearer.

It is/was very special on the times I wore it. But it did not get the wrist time like some of my subs, just because it was my grail and solid YG. Hope that can make sense to some of you guys out there. My Exp I is a wear and go anywhere watch, where the DD was to be babied. Did it need to be babied? NO! But YG vs SS, I always was a bit more careful.

I hope to buy again some day.

The DD you'd probably lost the most money on? Precious metal watches usually depreciate a lot more if you had bought that from new. Your s/s Rolex's I would of though you would of been able to get the most money for, in proportion to your DD. Why not keep the DD, and keep one SS as a daily, and sell all the others? That way, you get to still wear a nice daily, and also have a gold grail for special occasions?

Exciting times ahead for you and your family. Always sad to have to let something like the DD go but it's an inanimate object and easy to replace when you are able to do so again.

If your grail didn't get much wrist time I can understand selling it.

That's one great looking Rolex! I think I'd be sad selling it too!
I assume that you have considered selling a variation of the other 9
Maybe this beauty (your grail) offers you the best $ return to help for the new home....

Good Luck , I'm sure the tears will soon stop

Unless you need the $$, don't sell your watch. If you are trying to prove a point to your wife and this is what it takes, then dump your wife.

In life, try not to get attached to material things. They do not make us who we are. I will not give my Rolexes away to some "save the children foundation" but when th price is too good to be true, then I will sell them like
a can of beans.

And don't be sad --- you are only losing a Rolex -- not even losing, you are getting $$ back for it. In this world, in a blink of an eye, fortunes change. People go out for awalk and do not come back. You go out cycling and a car hits you, and now you're in awheelchair for life. Look at all the crap that happens everyday and you will see your fortune and see that it is JUST a watch.....

Don't be sad a home is a much smarter purchase than a watch and you can always buy toys later.
