Thanks guys, really just looking to make sure I am not crazy for passing on a watch that I thought I wanted.

I will update the forum with what I get.

I tried on the TT GMT IIc which I liked and I am still thinking Milgauss GV which was my first choice when I assumed (mistakely?) that I would not see any SS Daytonas.

I have also seen several other pieces that I like, perhaps I will bypass Rolex altogether again this year

First of all, you aren't a failure because a watch doesn't compel you to drop at least $12,000.

Secondly, if you can't warm up to the watch, buy one that warms you up.

There are no rules and no requirements to do what you do not wish to do.

Take a deep breath and cool it for awhile.

You'll find your watch when it's time.

Good advice. The Daytona isn't doing it for him.

It is not hard to get. Based on your post, this watch is not for you. Move on and buy what floats your boat. If you have to question it, it is not for you. There are plenty of of other models to consider. Just my 2 cents.

The Daytona is rare (artificially so), I don't need the chrono, as a matter of fact the chrono for my eyes is almost unreadable, the dial is very cluttered and the hands do not read well either..

I went to look at one with the intention of ordering/buying and quite liked it, but it was lighter and smaller than my DSSD, Navitimer and Carerra so I was a little unsure. Despite being a chrono I did feel that it was more dressy than the others, perhaps because it was smaller and also just white and silver. I then made a critical mistake. I tried on a Y-M II in rose gold and that parked any idea of a Daytona whilst I ponder if I can get a Y-M II.

I don't understand your statement at all. In fact, it doesn't sound like you really love the wTch or even LIKE it. It is not all that hard to get.

Life is too short to be stressed about not liking a watch. There are TONS of watches you will like. Start looking around and trying them on.

and Daytonas are no longer hard to get. Don't believe the AD's if thats what they are telling you. I can get both dials in SS at any number of AD's tomorrow if you would like.

I feel the same way.. I see them online, on other people and in their photos and love them! In person, on my wrist, i'm underwhelmed...

Honestly, even if you do get one eventually it probably just isn't you! Don't waste your time, you know when you and a watch were meant to be LOL

have a family member who bought in to the hype and purchased a ss daytona with a white face. After wearing it for about a week, he sold it.

Excellent advice.

Thanks again for all the great advice.

I will look at it on Monday and give it one more try.

I have already seen some other things, I still really like the Milgauss GV on my wrist. I feel better about my decision now, funny I always tell people not to buy if it does not sing to them, I guess I just needed others to tell me the same thing.

Could be you don't need to buy another watch at this time Rolex or otherwise.

Take some time out - you will know which one you want when you find it.

I think the Daytona face is busy as well and the lack of date is a pain, but the watch is beautiful and I love it more and more every day. I think the Daytona is too pretty to be in the “sport model” category it, to me, is in its own class. I think the complications and the movement make the watch more desirable to me. I hope you enjoy whichever you decide.

There can't be a worse reason to buy a watch than due to it's "artificial" rarity.

Definatley sounds like you need to pass on it.

No sense in dropping that kind of cash on a watch if you're not 100% sold on it.
They'll always be availble if you want one in the future.
Enjoy exploring your other options.

Those are all the wrong reasons to own a Daytona. If you are resisting, then there is some force or reason that is making you resist. Listen to you inner voice.

It ain't rare.

Sounds to me as though you need a Daytona with a dial from a WG model. Or maybe you simply admire the model.

It sounds like you want to want it but do not really want it. Maybe come back to it later or go with some other choices. Good luck...

I went through this decision years ago when I could walk into my Rolex dealer and they had every model of Daytona watch at reasonable uninflated prices. I NEED a date window on my watch. I never looked at them again. Funtion follows form.

$12,000 is a lot of money for a blinged up SS tool watch. If you don't love the Daytona, you could spend that money on a really special watch. Consider something like the AP RO. It's lovely and to my mind a lot more special than a Rolex sports watch.

As others have mentioned, the Omega Speedmaster Pro is a really compelling watch at 1/3 the price. I'm seriously thinking of picking up that watch.

With all due respect, comparing the Omega Speedmaster pro to the SS Daytona 116520 is like comparing a Ford to a BMW. For that matter, Tudor makes a great chrono and with a date! But you have to get what you like.

I have a love hate relationship with Daytonas... I've owned 3 SS and 1 WG model and can't seem to hold on to them. I love the way they look, but not ON me.
