Sorry to hear Grady, but it looks like you got pretty lucky, it could have been a lot worse.

I'm counting my blessings. I've never been a proponent of keeping a watch pristine at all costs, although the irony is that I was trying to keep the watch safer by putting it into my pocket. So far, so good with the timekeeping, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. The external damage, I can live with. It serves as a reminder that more often than not the safest place for your watch in on your wrist.

I've learned a very valuable lesson and that it is to not deviate from one's own philosophy.

The DJ is still gaining about 2 seconds per day and there are no indicators that anything is wrong internally, such as clanging or shifting parts.
I'd have to say that the DJ is one rugged piece of gear, regardless of its pretty face and irresistible charm.

Did it start raining? So sorry, couldn't help myself.

I'm too embarrassed to go into the ugly details of my ignorance and stupidity.
Let's just say that unless you intend to put your arm into a blast furnace or into the garbage disposal, your Rolex is probably better off where it was designed to be worn.

Thank you, Bangel.
You're a gentleman and a scholar and your good looks (judging from your avatar) are only exceeded by your magnanimity.

Good to hear all is well, Grady. My heart sunk when I started reading your post. That's not good to do to a 55yr old with Stage III heart failure and and implanted defibrillator 8^O YIKES!
So glad to hear it took that licking and is still ticking (sorry...couldn't resist). Wishing you continued good fortune. Respect to you Devil Dog... Goose. |

I would have it looked over by a competent watchmaker. A significant shock could through the balance wheel off. Rolex uses an axle for the pivot of the auto wind rotor. Most other manufactures use a five point bearing. The bearing system is more rugged, but Rolex is more efficient as it allows more moment arm as the axle diameter is half that of the bearing system. The axle can get bent fairly easily as you have a large mass (the rotor) hanging from it. If the axle is bent, when the rotor rotates it hits the inside of the case and small bits of metal get sprinkled in your watch. The axle is a $10 part and its replacement is fairly straight forward. Not saying any of these things happened, but if you know a competent watchmaker you may consider having it looked at.
