Right now I would like to add both--but in this case I would go for the GMT II.

The GMT 10 to 1. The Daytona does nothing for me. Was offered the next one in by my usual AD and declined, prefering to wait on the GG Milgauss. Can't see my self ever buying a Daytona, "investment" value be damned.

Daytona has a "functional" look

The Daytona SS with a black dial with light colored rings at the smaller dial is my preferenced. The GMT has a bezel that has too many nu8mbers and looks "crowded", IMHO.

I'd take the Daytona. Stopwatches are handy in my work and with many of my hobbies. I also really like the looks of the Daytona. This'll stir up a hornet's nest, but I like the 16710 GMT II much better than the new 116710 ceramic version...especially the Pepsi version on a Jubilee!

Totally agree w/ rawhyde. Daytona all the way. No contest. I too prefer the older GMTII to the ceramic, but I like coke better than pepsi.

The Daytona.

The GMT is nice - the Daytona is classic.

Tom: Be sure to let me know when your "hypothetical" watches come in, so I can soak up some free scotch while I watch you hypothetically compare them before you pull out your hypothetical wallet and hypothetically buy both of them.

I am with JJ, the stationarey Minute counter hand on Chrongraphs drives me insane, and obscures the logo.

Daytona! I would love it even if it was the least in demand. It is so tied in with motorsports which makes it even cooler in my book. It also has a more complex and interesting movement.

The Daytona second hand may be a little weird, but the new GMT has some oddities too like the GIANT bezel numbers.

I also think that the new GMT will not be as special if they come out with upgraded ceramic bezel/maxi dial/new clasp Submariners and Explorers.

I will choose a white Daytona, since I already have a GMT II traditional. Variety, is a good spice for living.

You could rest it at 6 o'clock you know.

OR

have it going continuously.

Many watchmakers do NOT recommend you have the chrono hand running continuously as it only causes more wear and tear. Should be used only when necessary.

Frankly, that stationary hand just about drove me round the bend when I had this watch for a couple of months....and then got rid of it!!

That's interesting....I used to have my old seiko chrono running continously since like you, I can't stand a stationary second hand. That was a quartz though so it's not really the same thing. But in all honesty, since it IS a ROLEX, I wouldn't have though wear and tear would apply......

I mean, just MUCH MORE wear and tear would really apply? Would it shorten the life of the movement by 10 years? 5? Anyone have any thoughts, experience with this?

Like I said, my Seiko chrono function (quartz) ran non stop for over 10 years.
