Does the seller have references? Don't rush in without checking him out first. If he's a good seller then he will encourage this.

Is there an advert online that you can post a link to? I assume that the price is attractive, but have you tried negotiating with a local AD?

Please take your time, buy the seller before, check it with an AD (he opens it for checking movement, then get the waterprofness re-done) ; get the last service paper or the buying paper... If you doubt, buy it here with known sellers.

I checked the EXIF data on most of the watches the seller has posted on the forum. All of them are with the same camera and taken this year.

I haven't found any posts on that forum that can say he's any trustable.

He said:
And again for your safety: The watch is brand new, comes with all Boxes, Booklets and Hangtags, is fully sealed and dated 10/2012. The watch comes from Greece, LC 200, official Rolex Dealer ( a good friend of mine).
I looked at the EXIF data of the pictures and they are taken with sony camera, which it's the same as in other watches he's selling.

Here's the actual ad of the sub:
http://www.watchlounge.com/wbb3/wl/s...t-aus-10-2012/

Here's one ad for an explorer:
http://www.watchlounge.com/wbb3/wl/s...t-aus-10-2012/

The problem in this city is that there are no submariners, but many ADs. People have to order them and wait from one to three months to get it.

So it's all so difficult :( That's one of the reason I initially wanted that old sub 16610N.

EDIT: He also offered me to travel to his city and to the transaction inside his local bank branch... I said I couldn't go on a weekday, and he said that for his and my security, it's not possible to do this in person in another place. Kind of whatever. But some Germans are like that. I don't know if I should relate it to this. But whatever....

I think that there are no sellers in this forum that are located in Europe. I once tried to buy from a US seller but then we realized customs fee would be too high...

Considering Psmith recommendation I've found now a better trader with good rating on e-bay and with many accounts of different watch sales sites... I'll let you know whenever I buy it though. Thanks everybody.

If I were you, I might just put my name on a list at your local AD, and wait the three months.....this way, you KNOW you are getting what you THINK you are getting, and possibly at a better price? Just my 2 cents worth, as the options you have noted above all seem to come with some associated risk.

Good luck, and I concur that you should either get a new SubC or look into a 1680 (or even a 1665 Sea Dweller), for a true vintage experience.

Yeah... I might be considering this... it feels horrible to be dropping 6000 euros on something I am not even seeing in person and with some risk too with not well known sellers and argh. It's supposed to feel good, not to feel scared of being scammed...

IMHO the 16610 is too high. I wouldn't trust it's been serviced so throw in $550+ for a service. I much prefer the SubC to the previous model. The bracelet, maxi dial, larger lugs, ceramic bezel, and best of all the glide lock clasp are great upgrades in my opinion. You need to ask yourself which you prefer. Good luck.

Good luck with what you decide, but personally I would wait and buy from a local AD. 100% safety and peace of mind will be worth it

the SubC definitely feels like a watch that is consistent with the price. The original sub, while classic, definitely does not feel like a $5K watch, especially the bracelet.

Good news is that with the 16610 that you can basically resell it at the same cost, so it's sort of risk free in that regard.

Thanks guys!

I have finally went the right way for me in my special case... Thanks to Psmith since he kinda encouraged me to go to an AD and negotiate the price. I could get it down from € 6,850 to € 6,250. A great price considering what I was just about to pay € 6,120 to a private seller by just looking at a picture...

Every AD here (Wempe and Bucherer) are big chains and they wouldn't lower down the price, so I am quite happy I could find this other smaller but still reputable AD here in the city.

So so happy. I can't wait... I should be getting it between 3 to 6 weeks.

Cheers!

Looks like a solid deal. But I've no clue of the site u refer too.

If you have any doubts, find one here in the classifieds. Then u have zero worries.

The 16610 is beautiful!! Great pic. I have seen a lot of SubCs around and that cerachrome is just so shiny... it looks really attractive!! This and the clasp were the facts that made me go for the SubC... and by the way, I am still waiting for it! Oh... I really can't wait. I've really thought of getting a Milgauss or a Big Pilot in the mean time... it's been hard times waiting for it.
