This story touched me as my dad was a daily Rolex wearer and I'm having his 1970 Daytona restored now. My father passed in 1999 from Parkinson's, which at the end robbed him of his senses, and he got the watch pretty wet..... The watch was pretty much his last 'thing' etc and he used to wind it obsessively from his bed.... no one had the heart to take it away from him at the end.

The black face white dial Daytona is being rebuilt using a 7200 Zenith donor movement (the basis of the 6263 anyhow as I understand it). All the gen Rolex complications are surviving, happily as are the hands, case and crystal. A new crown and pushers were found, Its getting a redial and new dots. Its also receiving a vintage rivet bracelet from the same year we sourced and when it comes back I'm told it will be as good as new and look new as well. That will be startling.....

As an aside my mother and I sold his house last year and I've purchased my first 'life-time' watch, a sub C, from a TRF member. After all, I've got a son, too :-)

We all keep our parents in our hearts but it's still nice to have something tangible as well. I've carried my father's key ring for nearly 30 years. It doesn't seem like much but hardly a day goes by when merely taking my keys out of my pocket doesn't remind me of him.
