I love walking into the high end watch stores here in Singapore with a nice piece on my wrist. They do pay attention. My attire usually says nothing as it is usually jeans and T-shirt but the watch speaks volumes in those stores. Everywhere else nobody cares which is fine with me.

The only time I recall was at the Wynn - after leaving the Rolex AD there, I wandered over to the other Swiss watch shop next door and the counter person immediately commented on my RG President's looks.

Otherwise, my other Rolex never get a 2nd look.

I stopped at a Best Buy after work recently and happened to be wearing a suit and a $25,000 watch, quite a bit better than I usually dress. After watching 6 guys in shorts get waited on before me, even though I was there first, I walked out and have not been back since.

No, I don't find that a nice watch does anything for anyone but me, and that is ok.

No never have felt that - In an urban and or rural setting. Again I feel that very few folks percentage-wise - even care about a watch as anywhere near as much as us enthusiasts!!

It opens doors.

I was at a car dealership (Mercedes) -- I wore my DDII YG -- the 1st thing the salesman said when introducing himself was "Nice watch - you have good taste"

I don't think it should've been the 1st thing out of his mouth - but here's 1 recent example.

She then told me she has a very special outfit in the back area and asked me to follow her. I followed her into the back room and there was nothing in there at all. I asked where the out fit was and she replied "I have to remove my blouse to show you" . She then started to slowly unbutton her blouse and then all the sudden I heard this fire alarm. It got louder and louder and it was almost painful. I got so loud and painful that all of the sudden I woke up from my dead sleep and threw my alarm clock against the wall. It was only a dream.

My point is nobody notices watches in the real world. It's all in your head.

No. Rarely another guy with a Rolex/Panerai or wearing any other luxuy brand notes and gives some nice compliments. But that as I said is very rare.

No, but I have had the opposite happen. We never wear good stuff when we travel. If we go into a nice jewelry store, I've definitely picked up on being treated differently, treated as if there's no way they're going to close the sale with me.

Oddly enough, the nicest treatment I've ever gotten while traveling was in a Fred dealer in Monaco. We had been swimming, were running out of time, and literally had thrown tshirts and shorts over wet bathing suits. We went into the Fred dealer, and I explained in my broken college French that we were looking for anniversary gifts, and they treated us like royalty. They could not have been nicer, even though I'm pretty sure we were still dripping wet and just looked like a couple of deadbeat kids.

IMHO - most salespeople are trained to "pre-qualify" buyers on attire (including watches and jewelry), facial expression and body language first and foremost. -

and handed me her card, Told me if there is ever another Rolex that I may be interested in. Do not hesitate to call. She would love to add me on her client list.

and to remember her, I got this as a freebie !
I think it's used though

My gf on our way out, mumbled a little loud "what a two face twat !"

I don't think so. I went to an AD this evening wearing a 116619, polo shirt and shorts , couldn't get the sales guy to even come to the Rolex counter!

Meh...it depends where you are. In SoCal people know that you can be a t-shirt bum and have multiple millions in the bank from your internet start up, so they seem to treat everyone as if they're going to buy a $25K watch at any time. But, it also depends on the salespeople too I guess...

I was recently at a AD with my sub on and my cousin had on his sea-dweller and we got treated well, but I don't think it'd be any different if I had worn one of my beater watches.

Comes with the territory of wearing a watch brand that is well known. Reality is it happens when i have my Rolex on vs when I have my Seiko on. It's not my intention to be noticed but that is what I get. Not complaining though whether it's a Rolex or Seiko, to me, no difference.

Too many watches look like a Rolex. No one can tell unless they get close enough to read the fine print. Most don't even bother looking.
