D9 + ammo = Dangerously good!
I've got one on order myself! (As well as a black Lizard strap)
The pouch is from 1950. I really liked the dark mahogany color. Here is how the strap will lay out. I chose olive drab thread. Hope to have it in June. ![]() |

Pretty nice looking strap and carries some extra history for those GTGs where other affeccianado's can ponder what daring and dangerous missions were undertaken by the pouch's original user.

I personally am most interested in the rich Mahogany leather of the older pouches. And having a sliver of Swiss heritage is also an appeal.
The craftsman making these straps really knows what he's doing. I'm just as excited about the exotic skin strap he's working on for me. |

thanks, john really has some unique techniques. for me, it's about variety. i love the depth and character of that strap, which i think of as "formal-casual". other times, OEM gators feel really great, with their thinness, high-quality build and more discrete presence. i'm looking forward to seeing your straps from D9. ![]() |

Normally, I am not a fan of Panerai. HOWEVER, that combo is smoking hot! Great looking!!!

You're spot on about the OEM gators. I am wearing a semi-matte black gator (short size) now. It's perfectly made, uber thin and the highest quality...just not as much character as the skin on yours. Looking forward to getting mine from D9. Still a couple mos away I think. I have a Toshi coming next week 😄 |

However, although many ladies wear Panerai watches beautifully, my tiny wrist, most sadly, does not allow me to join them ![]() Here are the straps that John built for my Nomos Orion 33 mm: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=449302 http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=379175 Looking forward to seeing your new strap - I know that it is worth the wait.

I like the fact that they show you the actual ammo pouch they use.
I have bought "original" ammo straps from another vendor with typos in the embossings.... When one copies military markings, one should check twice.... |

Thanks everyone! Of course I still have them both and the 217+ammo is one of my all-time favorite combos!

How has the ammo strap aged over the past few years? I have one as well and it is very stiff as you have noted. Just wondering if they break in and become more pliable over time. As always, amazing review and photos! ![]() |

![]() In all honesty, I have too many watches and too many straps that I will never be able to answer your question... ![]() I really doubt that it will break in... this isn't new leather - heck, it's 53 years old... ![]() ![]()

Just placed an order with John at Dangerous9 again this week.
For use on all three of my PAMs, I've gone for another Teju lizard skin, this time in Racing Tan. I've opted for padded lugs but not the TCLS this time. Kangaroo skin lining in motorcycle chocolate, double keepers, ecru stitching and polished buckle. After looking at this thread, I got really curious about the Swiss Ammo pouch straps so I asked John what the score was. He sent me some info on what they are and then the links for the three different types, which are basically 1960s, 1940s and 1950s and what's termed as 'ancient'. I had a look at the ancient and really liked the way these pouches look. To me at least, the aged ones look so cool. Anyway, my eyes nearly fell out of my skull when I came across a particular one, which you can see in the photo below. The name, which is presumably who it was issued to, is so close to mine it's creepy. I only wanted the one strap but had to have this one before someone else picked it up! It's from 1926 and it's going on my 737. With the Swiss Ammo, I've kept it simple. Padding at the lugs and a vintage, PVD buckle. I cannot wait for these two! ![]()

The racing tan lizard is going to be GREAT! Can't wait to see.....I've actually gone over a year without ordering a strap for my 164....This might change things!
![]() ![]() I'm not a big ammo guy, but that one looks fantastic. It'll look good on the 737 for sure. |

I'm not sure if I'm an ammo guy or not; I've never knowingly seen one before but I love the idea of a strap with some history behind it. No way was I letting it pass when I saw the name stamp though, uh uh, no way. Should make the 737 look real vintage though and I can't wait to see that ![]()

I actually didn't ask him this time. Last year he quoted me 16 weeks but he turned it around in about 12. I'm expecting them around Christmas time
