Pretty much this for me too.
My wife and I do "well" enough also, enjoy our careers, and have no debt (well, except for one quickly dwindling school loan). My yankee sensibility prevents me from going into a real watch collection as it were. But that's simply my own hangup there. I think the thing is, you have to work hard, work SMART, and be SERIOUS about your work. Those last two are probably more important than the first. |

...we also have no kids, so that's a huge consideration for most people.

Ditto, but we're in our thirties and that sounds like it will be changing soon.. And it scared me!

I'm lucky enough to afford & bought 5 luxury watches last year within 2 months of time, & i told my wife that i got a great deal on the fake watches. at first i thought it's cool she believed what i said, but then i didn't know she took one step forward, got my new watches out of the safe & checked them one by one, i was like S#@t!! boxes, dated, named & stamped on the card, & guess what? she was pissed off at me big time!!

Mine too. She even told me off for selling my Sub to get a Diver - saying I should have kept it!
The best part - I said to her - "if we won the lottery and you could have ANY watch in the world what would you want?" ...an hour later after playing on her iPad mini she shows me this... ![]() $200!!! I have found a keeper that's for sure!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I love it!!!!
![]() To be honest you only live once. I see my watches as a separate savings account where I get to enjoy it by wearing my watches every day. I started collecting in 1990 with my first Rolex Sub given to me by my dad. After that I started saving for my second one, a SS Date with Oyster Dial, then I got this disease in 1994 and here I am, like 40-50 watches later with a nice collection mainly focused on APs which I started collecting in 1998. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Watches are the new currency!

It seems like Rolex is the "gateway" watch to the hardcore ones like AP, PP etc...

After telling my girlfriend (wife too be I hope) about the Sky Dweller i tried on yesterday, she said "darling if you really want it we can use both our funds to get it for you". There´s no way I would agree with that. I asked her this morning if she really meant it, and she said YES, without hesitating. That means a lot to me. Not that she would do it, but the thought of her knowing how much I like watches and want me to be happy.
But I won´t even consider her offer, I´m a old school guy and see it as my duty to take care of us both. The next watch have to wait a couple of months. ![]()

Yeah, well we women with the addiction sometimes have the same problem with husbands. The resistance part seems to have been solved by hooking HIM on watches too. However, the money part still remains. I now must learn to moderate. Please wish me luck. I'm also going to start culling the herd and focus, but first I have to decide what to focus ON. Thankfully, DH saw a YMII and said "EWWWW."
