Sorry for the long-winded reply... Went to an AD last week to browse. The Explorer I wasn't really on my radar until I took a close look at one. There is something about it, the proportions (maybe not the short hands) and the way it looks a feels on the wrist that immediately made me want to get one. It's understated but beautiful. If I only had only one watch in my collection it would probably be the Exp I, just nudging out the 114060.

If I had 2 watches, the DSSD would be the second!

The proportions on the 39mm Explorer are off to me. SD wins this one, IMO.

Agree that it's a tough call because they're very different looks, so it's a matter of the look you are seeking. My preference is for the SD look, but I do like the Explorer almost as much. Good luck with your decision!

even with the sub in the mix, I'd still go SD, unless it's a subc, then maybe.....I'd choose that one overall. It will be the more common of the bunch though.
SD.

Love the older 36mm explorer, especially the model that was around in 2010 with the updated movement and clasp but still the 36mm case. Wasn't around for long before the update to 39mm. When I tried on the latter at release I was disappointed to find it an odd fit on my wrist. Others are saying it compliments any wrist but this was not the case for me. I had a 36mm on hold but didn't buy it and bought the Daytona instead. Often think back and wish I had bought the Explorer, oh well. So, my vote goes for an old 36mm model Explorer! Both are nice watches though so follow your heart, I didn't! AM.

Very interesting could you elaborate on the movement and clasp?

It depends on personal style but for me it would be the Sea Dweller hands down.

If you want to really change up the look from your Air King, and don't mind purchasing a used (aka, pre-owned, pre-loved) watch, go with the Sea Dweller.

If you want to continue to own a watch with elegant simplicity, or if you really prefer a brand new watch, buy the Explorer.

I have an Explorer and a Sub...love both. If I just had one, though, it would be the Sub. I suspect the same would hold true if I had the Explorer and the Sea-dweller. There's just something about a dive watch...

On the other hand, that Explorer really is an elegant watch, and yet a sports watch too.

This is why I don't own ONE watch...Thank God.
