The fact that this chrono has a date function is a big plus

Agreed. I miss the date function on my Rolex Milgauss and on my recently sold SS Daytona. Looking forward to the Dark Side of the Moon!

I thought so, but then I saw the Speedy '57 as well. 41mm, classic styling, what's not to like?

Hmm. Good point. I really love all those websites with orange text on a black background.

The biggest thing keeping me from getting a planet ocean is the use of orange. Red on black is a much more common and pleasing combination everywhere except in the world of watches. Not sure why. Don't think I need to list the countless sports teams that are black and red. Or black leather seats with red stitching in many cars. How about a nice red tie with a black suit? Black and red have always gone together. Black and orange not so much. Blue goes much better with orange.

This color scheme is absolutely amazing.

So the dial at 3 oclock has the minute and hour? So basically you can only really tell 12 minutes went by?

Never mind. I just looked closer at the picture and answered my own question.

I'm really starting to like the look of this Speedy.
Matte black ceramic case @ 44.25 mm and a black Cordura strap gives it a real 'mean' look.
But 10k, hmmm...

I wish the case had a matte finish instead of shiny.

I thought so at first as well but when you go through some of the hands-on review it seems like Omega have polished various areas http://www.ablogtowatch.com/omega-sp...atch-hands-on/

How do you read the 3 o'clock sub dial with two hands?

Minutes and hours?

The small hand counts the hours and the larger hand of the subdial counts the minutes

other than the thickness and the chemical formula on the dial (ZR02), it's REALLY nice.

here's another review with more live pictures (click here).

gorgeous pix!

but, i have to agree, not having a quick-set date is a pretty glaring error:
"But, something that has always bugged my about this caliber (and the watches in which it lives) is its lack of a quick-set date. I just don't understand why Omega would go through the trouble of making what is, by all accounts, a truly superb and modern mechanical chronograph movement (with silicon balance spring!) and not give it a quick-set date. What is this? 1972? I am used to spending my entire walk to work spinning the hour hands to get the date set properly, but that's usually on watches made during the Nixon era. And I do not necessarily enjoy it. In fact, in all honesty, I wear my older watches with non-quick set dates less than those without dates completely because it's just a pain. This caliber has a jumping hour quick-set function, and it is perhaps the reason why Omega was unable to add a quick-set date, but frankly, I (and I bet most others) would much prefer a quick-set date to a quick-set hour hand. It just doesn't make sense."

Completely disagree about the quickset date. My 8500 PO was the same way and at first it seemed a bother but have learned to appreciate the ease of time changing which is more common than changing the date.
My GMT2c is also like this and really like this feature. Though I can understand it to be a pain if you have multiple watches and this one has been sitting for a few days.
The ZR02 on the other hand is really asinine. Don't get why watch companies feel the need to put every single statistic on the dial.

That formula on the dial is really infuriating, because it is so pointless.

I really think the whole hour jump vs. quickset debate is nitpicking - it'll take you seconds more at most, plus you can change the date backwards or forwards (as opposed to just forwards on a 'true' quickset). That hour jump feature is handy when travelling as well as it doesn't hack the movement, and you know you have the precise time - something you can't do with a standard movement

I have gotten word from my Omega boutique that the Dark Side of The Moon watch will cost $12,000USD.

it has also been pushed back to a January arrival.

yikes!

12000 USD? That is higher than a Daytona, right? Interesting development.

aaah, so, it's like the 3185/6/7 movement? i misunderstood. okay, that's not totally awful, then. spinning through hours, while not totally ideal, is not that painful (i used to own a 16570).

have to agree....the more i think about it and look at the watch, the more i realize i could never wear it due to the formula. to my eyes, it cheapens the whole piece. really poor decision on omega's part.

this isn't just to criticize this particular watch or omega. i have the same issue with panerai writing "ceramica" on certain of their watches.

The ZR02 is barely visible on the pictures I have seen. You guys must really think that the Deepsea is ridiculous.

Actually, I do.

If the best that can be said about a design element is that "it's barely noticeable in real life" or "I don't mind it", it's bad design.

But nitpicking is exactly what fanboys do. They complain about Zro2 but buy a Rolex with several lines of 'superlative chronometer etc' on the dial and Rolex written all around the rehaut. They complain that omega have a black date wheel on a blue dial because the colours don't match but then think the new black and blue GMT is really nice............ it's all rather predictable really.

I'm a little surprised by the amount of enthusiasm for this speedy. Not because I think it's not awesome but because it's non-ceramic sister, the standard 9300, doesn't seem to get much love around the forums. I absolutely adore the standard 9300 speedy and am considering re-purchasing it. I think it's a little more versatile then than Dark-Side speedy and it doesn't have the ZR02 :)

So what about the Dark Side is so much cooler than this:

Just curious...

Spot on. At least there aren't any orange hands on this one, or we'd be hearing about the EXPII like on the POC GMT threads.
