Meh. I buy what I want and don't pay any attention to what other people think.

It's just jealousy, even if you believe that someone is wearing or driving or has something that you don't really like, why point it out to the person that has it. Just basic manners.

Luckly I've had only positive experiences wearing Rolex and Omega all my life. The first time I ever experienced total Rolex hate was on the Omega sub-forum of another well know site a couple of years ago.

At the time I was quite surprised, even a little shocked. The hate went on for a few pages, some people really take their distain for Rolex personally, it's just a watch.

I'm always interested in people's opinions of watches.

For a WIS, this is one of the greatest times to be alive, because there are so many ways to tell the time and really there are no bad options--from ten dollar Walmart specials to cell phones to Rolex to Patek Phillippe to one-off grand complications and everything in between.

Today, anyone can have a watch that suits his style, his budget, and his demands for accuracy, stability, and precision.

I love it!

I have a few friends that bug me when I ware Panerai, But most people like or love Rolex. They are king of the high-end watch market.

Honestly, other than in a jewelry store, I've never had any one ever notice my Rolex. If they did, they kept it to themselves. Of course an Explorer II is kinda like a stealth Rolex, you know it's there but no one else does. ;)

Funny enough, today I've had more people comment on my NATO strap matching my tie, than the fact that a Rolex is attached to said NATO.

Too many other things in life of importance to spend it debating people who will never understand ..

Nothing wrong with having an opinion. Being rude about it is another thing entirely.

If someone genuinely said something like "how can you justify spending so much money on a watch?" and they were polite and genuinely intrigued then I would answer with things like:

1) Holds its value well
2) Highly liquid
3) Mechanical watches interest me
4) Sentimental gift from parents. Not many things they could give me that would last forever. Cars and houses are sold on but I can keep my watch forever.
5) Very mobile so I can take it everywhere and therefore experience the joy I get from looking at it all the time.

Any comments about brands? I'd tell them that the only brand I consider other than Rolex, is Patek and I can't afford one yet. AP watches are a no since they got rid of the 39mm RO and independent brands don't really appeal to me. If the person genuinely knew about watches I would be able to debate with him. If he was just some guy who hated a Rolex because "everyone has them" then he wouldn't be worth my time.

I don't mind a friendly discussion, heck I've had more than my fair share right here but when it come to mindless and gets nasty I'll just bow out. I'm not about to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man...

Never happened to me. But the truth is there are better brands.
That doesn't change my love for the brand.
