Return it and ask for a full refund. Either way, $100 is small price to pay for piece of mind and better condition watch.

This is why i only buy watches that i can either see in person or watches that have pictures from every angle. But i know buying from "Trusted sellers" on TRF , im confident that this issue will not happen. tbh id return it but thats your choice. goodluck with whatever you decide.

I would return it, looks like an amateur worked on it with improper tools.

Like others have said - send it back and move on. I would not even consider wasting an AD's time with something I picked up from a grey dealer.

Before the flames come back to me- any trusted seller on TRF would never sell something like that saying it was 'like new'

If you have been looking for that watch for some time, and the price was reasonable; you have to decide if this wear/damage is acceptable to your sensibilities..

It is a 10 year old watch and most in that age show much more wear than this.. unless you are expecting that a 10 year old watch should look like it just came out of the display case.....

It was $4,395 plus shipping. Is that reasonable? There was no stretch in the band.

From what I read, the retailer stated to you if you are not satisfied to send the watch back. Whether or not it was or was not described properly, send it back, get your money back and move on....

I'd say that's on the high side, even with Box and Papers. Do a check at Chrono24 to get an idea of the prices available globally. In Hong Kong, for example, you'd be looking at about US$3,800 for a mint condition with B&P.

Agree with everyone's assessment. Send it back and get your money back. Perhaps that 'damage' may be acceptable for a watch you paid a couple of hundred dollars, but not thousands. Who's the grey dealer you got it from?

FAR from like new condition, especially the end links. Return for full refund.

The bracelet and end links have issues that will cost you extra. So the already high sales prices will climb even more.

Explorer I's of that age can easily be found - and they will be better specimens than that one. My own A s/n Explorer II was nearly pristine when I flipped it.

Hopefully, they refund you fully, if not, i agree that returning it, even at a $100 loss, may be the best decision.

Good luck.

IF the watch head and the bracelet are both in good condition (and keeping good time) apart from the damage to the end links, AND you are intending an RSC service then I would probably keep the watch BUT I would expect at least an acknowledgement of the damage by the seller and an apology (if not an offer to pay for end-link replacement).
I am unsure whether the RSC would want to replace the end links or just file/polish out the presenting problem. If their service quote specifies new end links then clearly the seller should recompense you for the cost. You paid top $ and they said it was 'like new'. Good luck.

Return it.
You're not happy. It would just leave a bad taste in your mouth to keep it or fix it.
There will be others.
Eat the shipping and wire fees. Small price to pay. At least they're willing to do a full return.
Good luck. You'll find the Exp you are looking for.

I appreciate that in the US it may well be different but in the UK if an item that you bought online is faulty then the seller is obliged to return you to the position you were in prior to purchase, if you just change your mind they are not.

I was not actually aware of this until recently when I had to send back two watches from the same supplier in relatively quick succession, I did some research and it turned out I was entitled to a full refund including the return shipping cost.

As I say may not be the same laws regarding distance selling regulations in the US, but worth a little research.

It's taken the shine off what should be a really pleasant event, I’d take a refund & start again a little wiser for the experience

Take up the seller on his offer to accept return of the watch, and move on.

.

As showed by the following picture, you can't change only the end links. As you have SEL on this bracelet, you'll have to order and replace part "32-20871" composed of 4 links and the SEL.

It probably cost a lot, you need 2 of them. Sourcing a replacement bracelet would be a better idea, I think (it's 1350us$ brand new from Rolex).

he's offered to take it back, which is great and the right way to go about this. so, what else do you want? you want to keep the watch and have him refund a portion to cover the repair/replacement?

I don't see big problem either: Return watch and get full refund as seller stated. Again you are buying a 10 year old watch not a new watch. Best of luck and am sure you will work it out.

looks to me that the bracelet was originally for a watch with lug holes and the slots in the end links were cut in to make it fit a non lug hole case.
