I like the Santos because of its history. It's evolved since Louis Cartier first made it but I like how the Santos 100 XL looks now. It's unique and interesting IMO. I wouldn't mind adding one some day.

Not being loved by the masses means there are bargains to be had for people like myself who love the style and charm of a cartier :D

I am not keen on the current models- but Cartier do make lovely watches.
My mother gave me her 30 year old Cartier- she had left it in a drawer for several years and said I could have it if I had it serviced. Came back from Cartier Sydney with a new battery and service and new band- looking as good as new- and keeps perfect time after all these years. Have to get around to taking a photo of my simple little Cartier watch. Love it. |

I have a Calibre de Cartier, in the leather band version.
It's a nice dress watch, the movement is made in-house, but (a) the leather strap is too hard to bend on its upper side, plus (b) to me with this amount of money you add a bit more and can easily get something better. Cartier have quite nice designs, aesthetically they are superior to many other brands, but their watches are quite sensitive (i.e. not so rugged). Overall the group (at least in this part of the world) maintains a policy of no discount, which is not really sustainable in my honest opinion, if they really want to attract new clientele. Some more tries last week, as I am on the lookout for a new timepiece: Santos Dumont LE rose gold case, 400pcs, rhodium plated hour/minute hands, rhodium-style dial, power reserve indicator, grey crocodile strap. Ronde rose gold version, no open back, this one is 42mm just like the Calibre de Cartier: Ronde diamond set, open back and price ar around $51k duty free here in South Korea:

I own the Calibre, which I very much enjoy, but I was at my AD last week and I checked out the Tank MC (in-house movement), which for me was pure disappointment compared to my experience with the brand. The movement was not adapted to a square case, which looked pretty messy. They should have adapted it, or not have had a clear caseback. It was so lightweight that it seemed really cheap. The wow-factor some watches have was there not at all for me. I like Cartier, but this watch, to which I really looked forward, disappointed in every way possible.
