If I recall correctly the watch was about $4000 a few years ago. The RSC service including replacement movement parts was about $850, service hands, dial and bezel insert was about $650 and strap, buckle and end links another $300.

The way I see it it is less than $6000 for a brand new watch built to my taste with a matte dial, plexi, no white gold index surrounds and a 1575 movement that is the same age as I am, and is still a fully authorized and correct vintage Rolex.

Sounds like a great deal....... and I would do exactly the same as you....

Most people seem to want to hang on to originality at all costs.... but if the watch model is fairly common model (and the 1675 was in production from 1959-1980) so a huge number produced, then if it is not in fantastic condition, then refurbishing it and bringing it back to it's full glory is a fantastic idea.

Also full functionality is resumed......

I still have the defect parts, so I can return the watch to the previous condition if I wish, but after using it for a few days I am pretty sure that that is never going to happen.

aaah, you still have the original parts? didn't realize that. well, then, in that case, there's no doubt, you did the right thing.

Looks great and well done. I love the idea if acquiring a birth year watch. Hmmmmm, may need to try that one myself.

I am just now starting down the path of a BY Rolex and I hope I am able to get something as timeless and completely original as you have managed. It turned out great!

What a fantastic story and I love what you did.

I too want a BYW but not sure I will go that route. However I did PM Larry aka Tools and he was kind enough to validate some info for me.

My plan is to buy my daughter her BYW and hang on to it till she is out of college. She is 4 at the moment so I have some time LOL.

Another reason why this forum is great....Amazing help from ppl here and amazing stories.

Love that strap! Which model is it? I can't seem to find it on Gunny Straps website.

Really enjoyed reading that.
Great story, with lovely pix, well done!!
I'm looking forward to the next stage.

BTW, I have all the old engine and gearbox oil, together with all the used air filters, oil filters, clutch plates and spark plugs from my BYC, a 1949 Jaguar XK120. I think I have all the old headlight bulbs too, somewhere. Well, you never know when somebody might want all the old bits for restoration. (My ex-wife loved my collection).

I really like people who do their own thing, in complete disregard to what is deemed "appropriate".

Good for you. Beautiful watch!

I really like the idea of a BYW as well, either this or the 5513 or a Speedy.
