Have spoken to Rolex, the Blue sub is on the 'hit' list.

However - they won't duplicate a certficate for my GMT - gutted about that, it's my absolute pride and joy and is now boxless and paperless

Sorry about your loss..

It just annoys me no end that there are low-lifes who don't believe in an honest day's work to earn something and feel they can just take somebody elses dreams and goals...

Dan: well, I guess it's cold comfort, BUT in the U.S. you would get a real hassle, and definitely not a new watch, unless you paid extra premiums(and pretty hefty at that). So, in that respect, an 'M' Rolex, Sub Date, Blue dial is not so bad, compared for example to hassling with the insurance company for 3 months while they haggle over paying you the 'present value' of what they would refer to as a 'depreciated asset.' So, in that small respect at least there's some relief. On the papers, well, I'd be happy to write a note for you. Oh well, hang in there, you've got family, good friends, i'm sure, and friends here on TRF.
best, dan

Not in safe (I looked only last week at investing in one ) - just on my side at home in watch box, it had 4 other watches in as well - needless to say, they took the lot.. One was only a 10 yr old Armani (£200 worth) - but it was my 18th birthday presents from my parents...

I feel gutted for you, Dan.

It's the invasion of privacy that's the more serious matter.

I hope that the pondlife who perpetrated this gets what's coming to him, soon.

So sorry Dan

They should adopt the old 'chopping off of hands' punishment for watch thieves.

What makes you suspect the suspect you're suspecting? Was it the fact that they went for the papers as well as the watches?

Went for watches, then straight to the draw for boxes and papers..

I had a cleaner just before Xmas that we fell out with, I'm convinced they have tipped someone off..

I'm sorry Dan!
Just work with the police... and bug them until this case is solved! Don't become rude though, they don't appreciate that, but just be a pain in the @ss...
Good luck!

Very sorry, Dan. We can only hope they are caught before they sell the goods. Sounds like an inside job, so there is hope.

did u mention this to the police while making yr statement? its as good a lead as any....

its obviously an "inside" job since they went straight to the watches and then KNEW where the box/papers were...

Dan it is worth spelling out in very clear terms to your local CID, who you suspect and why......your suspicions may link in to something that the police already know. There may then be enough for a warrant on the cleaner's home. The cleaner may have known links to other offenders in St Albans which the police can then exploit.

The situation certainly isnt hopeless, but as someone else has said it will pay dividends if you keep in close contact with the DC investigating your burglary (he or she probably has 20 similar crimes on their workload, so every little helps in keeping your crime at the front of the queue).......Good luck !

Dan - I feel your pain and I pass along my sympathies. This really stinks and I wish you the best in your efforts to recontruct your watch collection. You can never replace the emotional attachment, but replacing the items themselves will be a great start on the road to recovery.

If your insurance policy is based on replacement value, it is up to the insurance company to replace the items regardless of what they are worth. You may be able to push for exact replacements meaning you can get the same series. I am not familiar with the "new for old" term you use, but in the case where there is not a new model, they may replace with like kind and suggest a GMT IIc. It will be the GMT that becomes interesting as the exact model is no longer available. Bluesy should not be a problem as long as you are comfortable with a new replacement.

I am really sorry for your loss. This is the nightmare that we all dread. Best of luck!
