NYC is safe. Wear the rolex all the time never any issues. You'll be fine. There are people wearing way more expensive watches in manhattan

So do you guys insure your Rolex or only wear it for special occasions? I'd liketo wear mine every day to work.
Where is this dangerous "downtown" Manhattan neighborhood? I was once jacked by some nannies in Tribeca for my double wide buggaboo and some hipsters on the LES for my check meowt t-shirt. Seriously, a Rolex is dime a dozen in NYC. Nobody cares. And if they do, Maxwell can hook you up with some insurance.

Always wear my Rolex, Patek or Omega and I live in Paris where these days there are plenty. Of watch jacking ! Been to Naples in Italy, and in plenty of what people call sensitive places without any issues. For sure if you show it all the time and wear it to be seen and not for your own pleasure, risk is everywhere

No offense meant at all.

But if your that concerned it's probably better you don't wear one.

Less stress all around.

I'd probably be scared witless but, after calming down, I would contact my insurance company. We have a rider on our homeowners' insurance policy to cover our good watches.

If you're that worried, then just get a less recognizable watch. Like an AP Royal Oak or a Patek Nautilus. No joking: I always felt completely safe when wearing my Royal Oak, while in a few places I felt a bit worried when I was wearing my Sub-C. Noone except for WIS guys recognize a Genta creation

I have insurance, wear it wherever you want. Most are oblivious to your watch anyway.

Lived in Manhattan 12 years and counting...worn Rolex and Panerais all over the city, at all hours, from sober as a judge to Boris Yeltsin and never had an issue. Insurance is a good idea under any circumstance though...if you have a homeowners or renters policy you can likely get a rider for jewelry to cover a watch for a reasonable price.

I don't get these posts. If you are worried about getting your Rolex robbed, shouldn't you also be worried about your person being harmed? Ergo, if you don't put your body in that position, then your Rolex won't be impacted either.

If someone ever robbed one of my watches (Rolex or not) I'd calmly head back home, put on my bat suit, get in my Tumbler and find the guy before making him give me my watch back (with the grizzly voice, of course)...

...Otherwise I'd just call my insurance company...

All kidding aside, insurance is your best bet. It sure is a real bummer and humiliating to get robbed but no watch is worth risking my life. On the other hand, thoughts like these don't cross my mind very often and surely don't make me avoid buying watches, I'd say enjoy them to the fullest and don't worry about that.

I'd file an insurance claim for replacement value and would have a brand new watch on my wrist in a week.

When I was robbed at gunpoint on a sunny weekday afternoon in a busy financial district, I calmly handed it over. I played a few scenarios over in my head in that short time (nothing terribly heroic, but it was a busy street and I had a few options), but thought of my wife and 2 year old at home. I gladly gave up the watch (knowing it was insured made the decision that much easier).

Now when he demanded and took my wedding ring, that got to me much worse than losing some "stupid" Rolex. I was, and still am, much more distressed about that than the watch. What kind of lowlife MFer steals a man's wedding ring. I hope he was hit by a bus shortly thereafter when trying to pawn it.

In short, insure it, and give it up. Beats the possible alternative.

I lived in NYC and worked in the film business, and I often was at weird locations at outrageous hours. If I felt there could be an issue, I just slipped my watch in a pocket. True story: one very early morning I was getting heading for the Delancey street subway, and could tell I was being followed. I ran down the stairs, jumped over the turnstiles and ran to the platform as I could here the train coming. My pursuer likewise quickened their pace, and confronted me. "Here. You dropped your glove about a half block back." Indeed I had. I thanked him and he went on his way. This was my introduction to NYC. Just use some common sense, don't be too jittery, and you and your watch will be fine.

Did you just move here? I wear mine everyday (knock on wood) and I go out late night and knock back a few... also use mass transit. Walk home from bars, all of that good stuff. If you're worried insurance and a work out sweat band to wear over your watch when you are uncomfortable i.e. maybe crowded subway.

I pay 250ish... Oh and see them all the time on the subway. Also you may not realize it but women all around you have pocketbooks that cost thousands and so forth.
