Which one does your son like? If he helps you make the decision now it may mean more to him in the future.

Personally I just find the SM ND the much more attractive of the two.

If I could reverse time, and I could get beaten up by some of my comrades, I wish I had purchased a BNIB 14060M G-serial instead of the 114060.

That's the problem with this site. Had you never tuned in here, you would be happily going about your business, occasionally looking down at your wrist and thinking "wow, can't believe I really got me a Rolex!"

Very true. This site causes all sorts of positive and negative side-effects.

BTW, I'm so pleased to see that you still have your DJ.

Another vote for 42mm Exp II Polar. I prefer a date for an everyday watch, not to mention the GMT function as well.

I suspect you are correct Neil! Both would be amazing....I'd be curious if I had both which would get more wrist time.

Hello Mike, thank you for such a kind response to my post. I think your scenario hit such a chord with me because like yourself my late father was in the military, he served with the RAF for 40 years. When he died he left me his Military issued Seiko Chronograph. He was an Air Electronics Officer and was issued the watch in the 1980's when flying on the Vulcan. I used to admire that watch and tell him how much I loved it whien I was growing up. Would I ever part with that watch? Not for anything! Good luck with your purchase, whichever you choose and make sure you both wear it in good health. Regards Chris

Thank you for your service Mike.
You can't go wrong with either but I think you will want the date feature on your watch so I'd go with the ExpII. ...or consider the Sub Date.

I would go with the Explorer II. It has a date and the ability to track two time zones.

So many good points.....Such a tough decision. For those scoring at home, the current score is:

Subc - 13
Explorer II - 12
Neutral/buy both - 6

I'm right back where I started!

The subnd liberates you. A classic face that never spells eternity, just like audrey hepburn.

I think either one will stand the test of time just fine. I had my first narrowed down to the SubC 116600 and the Exp II 216570. I went with the Exp II in black because I liked the larger hands, I felt it had more wrist presence, and, honestly, because not everyone on the block has one. But that's just me.

My vote for 216570!

After having quite a few divers (including DSSD and Pelagos), right after acquiring 216570 (Polar), I could literally wear it everyday everywhere!

That's why I forced myself to keep it aside and try to give the rest more wrist time :)

Try them on both and follow your heart! Both are fine timepieces!

I have it from the utmost authority that the no date is the one to have. ;)

Something about this just hits the right chords.

I cannot even described how this Explorer has changed my life-style. I know, I know... sounds completely silly... changed my life-style... well, it has.

I even bought new jeans.
I kind of feel like that would be the case for me too. I am mesmerized by this watch in pictures....I can't even imagine how amazing it would be on my wrist every day. I completely get it!

Personally, i can't justify buying a luxury watch without a date. That's just me. I know lots of others feel differently. If you travel, you should go with the explorer to avoid having to set your watch. That's a big regret i have in not getting a gmt or explorer instead of my DJII. The explorer II is a sharp looking watch. You can't go wrong with it. Sub no date just seems very vanilla to me. But some people like that.

I thought the explorer ii and gmtc use the same movement?

I believe it's 3186 for GMT and 3187 for Exp II.

I travel internationally much more than I dive (which is never).....It seems like the scale is tipping toward the Explorer II.

My recent choice was a tritium sub nd. I love it's looks and history. It is as close to Rolex legend as possible.

I just bought a new polar Exp II to replace my older Exp II. I considered a Sub no date, but seems like everyone has a Sub. I love the explorer II. It is unusual and an awesome watch.

From a technical sense the Explorer II has two advantages over the Submariner; Paraflex shock absorbers and date function, but takes a backseat to the Sub in terms of styling.

Hard to choose but I'd go with the ExpII over 114060 but definitely would choose a Sub Date over former.
