I was set on a white dial 5711 as my next watch and my local AD even had one to try on, but the bracelet just felt too flimsy for me. Now I know it is beautifully crafted and elegant, but it lacked the sturdiness I would want in an all stainless watch.

I had heard the same about the 15202, based on TRF comments. But I didn't feel that way when I tried it on. Do you feel the 5711 bracelet is less sturdy than the 15202? |

Thanks. You absolutely hit all the points (plus a few new ones to consider, I.e., the case construction comments) that have made me originally consider the 15202...even before thoughts of the 5711 came into my head. |

Bracelets
To be honest I don't recall having tried on the 15202, so I wasn't comparing the two per se. I just didn't feel like the 5711 was what I like in a sports type watch bracelet wise. It was comfortable, but for me personally I just didn't love it. I have tried on the 15400 and 15300 though and those both felt rock solid to me. I would have preferred more weight and heft to the 5711 bracelet essentially.

Had the same dilemma back in 2011, although it was more about 5711 vs. 15300ST. I eventually went for the RO, on the basis that it felt more sporty and more special on the wrist. I never regretted it.
(Strictly IMHO) Patek is at its best when it comes to complications, so it is best to reserve your complicated watch purchase budget for a Patek. AP (and Rolex as well, for that matter) does wonders with 2-hand and 3-hand watches, and they make much better sports watches (again: IMHO) than Patek. Get the SS Jumbo now, and save up for a gold Patek. I'd pick a more complicated, less of a Nautilus piece though, like a 5146, 5960 or 3940.

I would opt for option 1, simply because RO is the one that defines luxury sports watch, and Nautilus followed suit later

Both great watches and the 15202 is one of my favourite APs. I slightly prefer the 5711 though. Also be aware that the 15202 does not have a quick set date and has a lower water resistance (and no screw in crown), in case either of those are important to you.

I would choose Patek. I tried one on and could barely take it off :-) Had it not been for 20K+ out of the door, I would have kept it. The flatness of the case and the quality of the bracelet are stunning. If you could make cashmere out of steel, this would be it.

Here's a new question. Which one is more of a scratch magnet?
The initial question I posed asking for comparisons of the two was based on a spotting of a 5711 in the wild. The wearer had no concerns wearing his 5711 on the Sandy beach playing with his kids and swimming in the ocean...I mean c'mon, it's not like this is a Rolex!! |

Nautilus works better for smaller wrists, but in the end it's a personal preference.

For one watch I think i would have gone with the 5711.
Or two, the 15202/15300 and 5167. ![]() |

Has to be the AP. I think the Nautilus would be overlooked almost entirely if it wasn't for the name on the face.

Having two AP's already (myself) I would have picked the Nautilus.

I dont like the nautilus.
AP is better. but for the price I would pick rolex submariner, its the most legendary and popular watch. its classy and strong for everyday use. its a tank. |

So now I'm contemplating taking this a step further. Not at all convinced yet, but mulling the idea of selling a couple pieces and jumping right into the 5712R.
The two to go would be my RG IWC Portuguese and JLC MCC2. Thoughts on this approach? |
