Of the two watches you mention I would get the 5711. However I would also have a think about where you want your watch collection to go. You seem to prefer sports watches so I would add a 5164, 5980 or 5990 even if that meant having to lose a piece or too, but to end up with a more focused collection.

Platona. BTW, that top Patek is absolutely beautiful. Is it a 5070?

5712 has the iconic blue dial and a couple of nice complications plus the lovely micro rotor and is thus more different to the Aquanaut than the 5711.

5711
Based in your current collection I'd get the 5711 and lose the Aquanaut. I think you'll find the 5711 much more versitile. On the other hand you've got the sports watch segment well covered already and the aquanaut adds little IMO. With the addition of the 5711 I'd be afraid the aquanaut will find limited wrist time.
Next add a nice Calatrava for more formal occasions and you've got a collection complete. |

if anything I would say that given most folks lifestyles, Calatravas are not needed, I have no desire for one.

Nice collection. Lots of options here - you basically have most options covered with the current collection - perhaps a dress watch (not really required these days).
I would look for a capstone to round off that collection given it's hard to beat the Patek. Lange daymatic or pp perp cal for that piece, or if the budget is too high, maybe a jlc RG perp cal, ap quantieme, or Ap RO 15202 would be my suggestions:) I don't see the 5711 getting much wrist time next to that 5146!

I traded my Nautilus (albeit a 3710) for fear of scratching it. I think the Nautilus does not show scars gracefully. Pardon the recycled photo, but this is my 5296G with jeans and a polo shirt, and is my personal choice:
So much love for the 5711 and the magical blue dial, so good luck with your decision! |

Do you not worry about scratching the polished bezel of the 5296?
Is that a brown strap? |

Not as worried. The Nautilus seems to magnify scratches and look horrible doing it (personal opinion of course). I had a vintage Calatrava for 20 years, and while it did pick up an occasional mark, it didn't look horrible. That is a matte brown square-scale alligator strap signed by PP (likely mfg by Camille Fournet). Looks fantastic, but I now have a shiny black alligator strap on it (also square scale signed PP likely by Camille Fournet). I must say I prefer a matte finish on this slightly more casual Calatrava, but will wear it more often with black (shoes/belt). |

5235 is cool. Or, a perpetual. From the web.

I have both. Aquanaut is my hot, summer day watch. Vacations and jeans. The nautilus is the work and cold weather watch. I just feel the aquanaut is more robust and beater. Whereas the nautilus is more dainty and special.

The 5235 is amazing and I've been lucky enough to try it on, true beauty! Unfortunately beyond my budget.

Here's a thought to make it more difficult, and a rare endorsement by me of the 5711:
If you're uncertain, and if history is any indication of the future, the 5711 will be in greater demand than a 5296. So if you change your mind later, you're likely to recover more of your purchase price if you decide to sell the 5711. This means nothing if you know what you want, as this is the true reason to own a particular watch. |

Just a couple from an incoming thread. They do not emphasize the strap however. I'll have the strap/watch handy when I return from holiday. I'll try to get some shots then. BTW, many leather products in this shade of brown (a touch reddish) I have seen described as Chestnut. I don't know what Patek/C Fournier calls it. Quite lovely and well suited for smart casual wear, best represented in the lower photo in direct sunlight: |

Very nice, I do love the white gold hour markers and the hands. I tried one over the weekend but it was with a black strap which was a bit too dressy, I do like the brown strap. In fact the black strap would have worked had it been a matte finish.

IMO the edge goes to the 5167. More versatile and very comfortable year round. The both share the same movement but you don't have to worry about gouging the steel strap.

A little late, and dubious quality iPhone photo in artificial lighting, but FWIW: more of the strap on the 5296G (I actually took off the glossy black 'gator band I just bought!)
