I have way too many but I love most of them including several micro brands that are just fun to wear! Some I have not worn in more than a year. I am at about 20 in total.

I like 6... think youre set with 2, however. 10+ is a luxury.

I have two that I wear right now.. my sub and a G-shock. I wear the sub about 5 days a week and the G-Shock about 2. I do have a seiko 5 that I don't really wear as I think its a little small for my wrist.

I stop counting at 10 and I stop looking for next one at the day I die.

A little bit of fashion (I won't lie) But it suits me for every occasion, Also a bit for comfort (Till this day I havent seen or tried a full SS w/ Bracelet as comfortable) and It's like a Tank takes beating. I occasionally rotate to my other pieces but not really, if I switched daily, I feel like im doing it more for bragging rights. Which was not the reason why I started getting into collecting my grails. I don't see my age to be fit yet so I haven't started hunting for what I really want to collect, which are vintages. In about 25-30 more years I'll probably sell most of my collection, settle down to just a few precious metals and Start hunting down rare, discontinued, and vintages For now I'm just having fun on whatever I am having desires for |

Someone once asked the lanky Abraham Lincoln how long a man's legs should be.
His response was, "Long enough to reach the ground."

Three is a good number. I have ten or twelve but have to cut back. Don't like to have a lot of money tied up in depreciating assets(modern Rolex watches).

I think I became a collector when I got my 3rd. Currently, I have 4 myself, and I've given my wife, father, and Mother-in-law each one. In my house I have a large safe/vault with a 4 position winder wired into it that I keep them in when not in use. That said I want more. I'm more of a collect every model type than every variation of a given model.
Have List: (Chronological order) SS DJ jubilee Milgauss GV 18038 DD 16570 Polar ExpII Current Wish List: Birth Year 1978 SD (may settle for a sub) TT Jubilee DJ w/tapestry dial and sapphire Omega Seamaster in solid 18k with the seamonster on the back (I know ... but I've wanted one for years) Pt Day-Date or/and Pt Masterpeice (I'll need to save for a few years) TT Serti Slate Sub GMT Pepsi Daytona RG DDII Pt Cellini w/ MOP dial 5240 I figure this will take about 10 years to complete; then I'm going to save for another decade and get a Pt perpetual calander from Patek and retire. |

At one time I had around 220. An intervention from my wife occurred and now I'm down to around 120. Still paring down a little.

I got 10 and I think it's too much. Might trim down my collection. I think 5 to 7 is the ideal number.

6 is the magic number. At least for "nice" watches. I'm not quite there anymore since I sold off most of my 12 less expensive pieces (Sinn, Lum-tec, Hamilton) once I bought my first Rolex. I prefer Speedmasters a to Daytonas but I think 3-6 is a really consice collection.
I could see a truly focused collector having just the three most iconic sport watches... A no date Sub, a GMT Master and a Speedmaster Pro. I don't think it matters if it's vintage or modern, whatever strikes your fancy. For the next three it's more a personal matter but one dress watch like a Cartier Tank or Patek would be a good choice as well as an OP or Datejust and if you go vintage on the icons maybe one modern or vice versa to add some balance. |

3 for me with a few vintage and beater pieces. I have my DJ for Mon-Thursday and my Speedy 3750.50 for the weekend. I also have a Navitimer World but I am in the process of selling it, so it sits in the drawer. However, after it sells either a Rolex or PAM will replace it. I also have a few vintage pieces, one as my pure dress watch, and of course Gshocks for running. I think I'll stick to a 3 watch rotation, and as I continue with collecting just upgrade the 3.

Right now I've got the following:
g-shock- beater which I wear maybe 1-2 times a year omega seamaster- passed on to wife who uses it as her daily watch 39mm exp I- my daily watch TT sunburst sub-c- my fun watch So I have 4 but in reality I only use two. I had set out to have 2- an everyday watch that is discrete and classic looking and a weekend/at home/fun watch that is more flashy (with the idea of it being a solid gold piece). I took a detour with a 116613lb with a plan to acquire a solid gold watch later in life, but I'm loving the sub-c. The sub-c fits the fun weekend piece perfectly and right now as much as I love the idea of owning a solid gold piece, that desire has cooled off with the sub-c. But the RG daytona or the RG DD with a black MOP is still in the back of my mind... as well as a PP 5711 for some reason... |

Depends if you collect watches as a hobby in which case you could have as many as were affordable or if you buy them to wear.

I'm considering an all modern trio of an 114060 (maybe the new Seadweller for you since you need a date) BLNR and Speedy Dark Side of the moon. |
