If you were wearing the new Rolex Deep Sea on either of these dives, your head would look like the cup long before your watch did. Cheers!

Those were polystyrene cups though.

They made a huge mistake with all that large type writing. Great watch !!Yes, use the gas escape / new ring lock system, just don't jam it in our face everytime we check the time.

Does Rolex even do market research????!!!! This smacks of a cheapo watch that needs to spell out the features to those across the room.

Are you seeing what I am seeing? There is the ROLEXROLEX rehaut engraving, then a shelf with another "chapter ring," and on that is the "GAS ESCAPE VALVE..." text. It looks like the crystal is then sitting on that shelf/chapter ring.

Instead of a double red sea-dweller you can have the double bling sea-dweller.

Yes you are right

I can barely see the ROLEXROLEX

It does seem that the crystal is sitting on the shelf/chapter ring as you said

It's OK to me...

I think I like the model, now SD is really different than Sub. Almost prefect look to me. I just don't like the chapter ring engraved. It's a lil' bit too much for me. I'm glad they don't change the Submariner much. Thanks GOD they do a great job to let Sub in original model. Well, at least until now.

I see what david see's....Oooh I almost sound like the kid from the sixth sense!!!!

The see dead Rolexes.

Bah Humbug...this new thing is just a little overengineered for my liking. How on earth are you supposed to lift your arm with that monster on?

Will be waiting for Dr Bo's diagnosis!

The chapter ring with the inner-engravings looks to be slightly "slanted" at an angle of say 30-degrees, hence the reason why you can see the engravings when looking at the watch directly straight on.

If that's the case, then the watch would have to have a large dial-diametre as that angled chapter-ring will eat up some of the dial.

If the old SD was 40mm, I'd assume this one to be at least 41mm if not, even 42mm in order to accomodate the larger lume-markers and the minute/hour hands.

I'd have to see it in person to make a better judgement on the watch.

To attain a 12000ft depth-rating, the watch would have to be really chunky and a lot heavier unless they used somekind of new material.

The things I like are the domed crystal. It won't be prone to chipping. As well, I like the larger lume-marker's. I just hope they gave the dial a larger diametre or else it will look cluttered.

One thing I don't like is the new clasp. Those teeth don't look good. I see that and I'd be afraid of them wearing down over time.

I think Rolex made a great change to the SD. For too long the SD looked like a somewhat less sub, but built better. Now the SD looks and is a watch of it's own.

That looks like a really good watch (minus the writing on the inner ring)

Hmm that's a great pic Tools. Although I think I like it because I cannot see too much of the dial.

I have a couple of questions.

Has it been confirmed that the current SD will actually be discontinued?
If so, how long do you reckon Rolex will keep up production?

It certainly "out chunks" the GMTc.

I can't comprehend why they are doing the shouty black lettering. It is a 100 X more conspicuous than the ER branding.

Here is a good picture to show the actual location of the inscription.

Pic credit to Harry Casper or whoever he knicked the pic from.

Ok .... like the heavier case...bezel and overall look but I think what doesn't look right is that , I'll say it, stupid extra ring with printing on it. Is it just me or does it look like the face is the original size in a larger case and the extra angled rehaut is there to fill in the gap to the edge of the new larger case?
