I was on the fence about the DS but that price may just tip me over to the I'll stick with my current SD side.

Yeah, it's expensive. So is Glashutte, Blancpain, Panerai, and several others.
There's been a lot of back and forth on the new Rolex diver. Are there short comings? Sure. In my view they could have left Sea-Dweller off the dial and just put Deep-Sea. For this reference they could have given a rubber strap option. They could have done a lot of things, but what they did do was give the option of a larger watch with a lot of advances. After all the rocks are thrown (like they were last year) people are going to buy this watch. Yeah, I called my AD today---I'm first out. |

Guys, I think that price in British Pounds has the 17% GST factored in. So should be less for us here in the States.

There are numerous SS watches that retail for over $10K.
JLC, Panerai, Blancpain, Patek, Vacheron, they all make 'em.
But once again, has anyone verified the official US MSRP for this watch? So many people are in an uproar over a price that has yet to be confirmed. If it's based upon the published price in pounds sterling, it will almost certainly be incorrect, as the two don't run in tandem. The Deep Sea would end up between $7-8K here in the US. |

I have to say, I really like this thing.
I'm not planning to buy a second Rolex, but I would have preferred a Sub to the existing SD, and I prefer this thing to a ceramic Sub. The current SD does not sufficiently distinguish itself from the Sub. The idea that Comex wanted something more durable and Rolex worked with them to build it sort of makes sense, but as a separate production line, it is too similar to the other watch. The DS is, in my opinion, what the SD should always have been; the biggest, toughest, most durable diver's watch on the market. This is the Humvee of watches. If you don't like it, you can wear a Submariner, which is now a distinct line. The main objection people seem to have is that the text on the stepped rehaut is unattractive. I'm not a devout minimalist, and I don't find it personally objectionable. A blank chrome ring there would look kind of dull. |

I called Rolex New York today and asked the price and the guy almost laughed at me and said it had only been out a day and they had no other info from Geneva yet about prices or availability.

The SD was designed for a purpose, Comex needed a watch for their Saturation divers that worked and would not pop the crystal during decompression. Hence we have the iconic Sea-Dweller.
The new Sea-Dweller (Deepsea) who requested that, why was it manufactured, has it been used in the real world for professional diving as the SD was. The dials to cluttered The depth from Crystal to Dial is enormous (reminds me of the seiko) Price is to much A gimic watch Lots of people complained the SD was to top heavy, my goodness, what will the DS be like then IMO; Rolex have lost there way with this watch, sure bring out a new version if nessasary. This one would of been a little better.

spoke to my AD today and he;s expecting it to be even harder to get than the ss daytona. Apparently even though they're a big store they expect top get only 1 SDDS a year as opposed to the 2 or 3 daytonas a year.

Hmmm......not sure if I like the new deepsea yet. Time will tell. Part of me wants to rush out and buy one but honestly, I don't think it's any better than my current GMTc. The GMT is certainly more elegant anyway. I'd go a WG gmtc though!

Saw my AD at 10:15 am on April 3rd, ordered and left a deposit for the Deep Sea. I will get the first one, but unfortunately the price and delivery date is not known.

i didn;t call early enough on the day of the launch and someone got in before me... so i'm 2nd on the list - but didn't need to leave a deposit cause they know me well enough plus i'll get to see the 1st one before having to decide.. still should have it by the end of the year if I want to go ahead.
