Maybe wearing Rolex shows a personal appreciation of quality (rather than an ideological or philosophical message) since the pics show Pope John Paul II and politicians like LB Johnson, Castro and Sarkozy wearing Rolex as well. That Che wore Rolex is quite well known, and apparently not something he felt he needed to hide. It is said that Che had both a Submariner and a GMT. It's no secret that Fidel and Che wore Rolex watches. They wanted the best so they got Rolex. That was my thinking too when I bought the GMT IIc.

I travel to Havana a number of times a year and it's very commercial there and getting even more so.

I just watched the DVD movie, "The Neighbor" with Matthew Modine and Michele Laroque. In the early scenes in her apartment, Michele seems to be wearing a man's white dial DJ loosely. This pic is from a totally different venue, so she might have been wearing her personal Rolex during the shoot. I wonder if anyone can confirm?
