It's a great idea. Let us know how it flys.
My wife gave me a Tag Heuer Professional at our rehearsal dinner as a gift. She knew how much I loved watches then and that was by far the nicest I'd ever owned. Now almost 19 years and a dozen or so Rolex's later I wonder if she regrets feeding the passion early on.
Here's a picture with my latest SD 4000.

We should all get a watch on our wedding day and then on our 5th, 10th, and 15th anniversaries!

I'm 20 and my girlfriend and I already agreed on getting "wedding watches". we both like watches much more than rings. although she wants either a colored diamond or a large princess cut as well.

My wife never bought me a Rolex, BUT she goes to work long hours M-F to earn a nice six figure salary so I can be a stay home dad and take care of our 8 year old daughter while my wife works. Since I currently do not earn an income I still feel fortunate to own 2 beautiful Submariners.

Oh my. So true.

As long as she doesn't sell the watches for what I told her I paid for them when I die.

You didn't get a Rolex as a wedding gift?

My wife got me my first Rolex as a wedding gift, a complete surprise, a few days before the wedding. It is all about marrying the right woman! :-)

Proposed in May 2014 (with a very nice ring I might add). No less than a month later I got surprised with a brand new DJII.

I'm all for the men getting an engagement/wedding gift!

As much as I'd like to see this movement gain momentum, it ain't gonna happen. Part of the deal with the wedding ring is that it is a signal to others that you are married and unavailable, and wearing one indicates to your wife your willingness to advertise your taken. Don't see the "steering committee" giving that up for a watch that doesn't make any such statement to all other females.

So why cant it be tradition that the bride buy her groom a watch for his wedding gift? Just like you both go pick out wedding bands you could both go pick out the watch. I would say the majority of members on this forum spent at least 10K up to 6 figures on an engagement ring/wedding band for their spouse. If you spend half on a grooms watch your talking a nice used Sub all the way up to Platona. This only seems fair to me. I don't ever plan on getting married again as I love my wife but something should be done for the younger generation of men. Anyone else with me on this?

I tried this exact speech on my GF months ago, I just picked up my "wedding watch" despite her denial of my "grand plan" and will post pictures soon. Shes getting 2.0+ so she cant complain. Get a watch.

I think a lot of people already do this. It seems likes its an idea that is catching on now with the advent of the man who isn't really a man in the sense that he was one in yesteryear. Oh well.

I think this is a great idea!

When my sister got married, my father gave her husband a SS Daytona as a gift (I think is tradition, but knowing my sister it was just a way from my father of saying thank you)

When I got married, my father in law did not know about this tradition. However I bought myself a great TT DJ. My wife does not like to wear expensive watches. She only wears her Lucida ring!

That was their $$$ down the drain. I'm sorry for them. Hope they had a ton of money.
If they were good folks and not a part of it, imo you should have given it back to them.

Of course she does. Maybe stick to you get her the ring, & she get you the watch..so that down the road you wont have to worry about her telling you she wants a coloured diamond or "large princess cut". LOL Its gonna cost you.

Happy wife, Happy life.

I'm sorry but the thread title, the actual OP question caught me off center. Not what I expected. Here is the answer I thought I was going to give: a Rolex is the perfect gift for YOU TO GIVE HER on your wedding day.

Great idea. Less "ring avulsion injuries" if this catches on….
