Bo, great to see you back! As always, your posting is an excellent conversation starter on one of our favourite topics, do you like Basel's new Rolex(es) or not?

Personally, for the cost of the watch, I will put that watch money towards a Sub TT Bluesy.

I have a Z series Sea Dweller, and that's watch enough. I'll never hit the max depth of the Z series, why would I want to pay a premium for a greater depth rating?

I love the idea of the maxi dial, matte dial, new clasp and the 43 mm case, but in fact the rehaut engraving is so over the top that I'd never consider the new Dipsy.

I look forward to seeing one, no worries, but for that kind of scratch--$$--I'll go for a TT watch. At close to 10 thousand dollars for a freaking watch, there had better be some precious metals in my opinion!

For those who like the Dipsy, good on you and I look forward to seeing the wrist shots!

Again Bo, glad to have you posting!

Best,

Chris

Great review, Bo. I am also divided in my opinion of the watch. I will have to see it "up close and personal" to make a final call on it. There are many things that I really like, the domed crystal and back, the titanium components to reduce the weight. There are some I don't, the "War and Peace" inscription on the rehaut, the huge size (Humvee on the wrist.) My AD has no predictions on delivery for this or my GV, so I'll be up in the air on the Dipsy for a while. Thanks again for the great technical review.

My Initial first impression of this watch is favorable, but I am afraid my wrists are just to small to handle it tastefully. I want to see it in person!

I want to see a lume pic at that depth. Well, we all know somebody's gonna strap it to a submarine and think it was THEIR idea. Sooner or later...

One question, though. I thought all the parachrom springs were blue, because of their makeup. Not the case? Why bother coloring some of them blue and not all of them? Could someone enlighten us as to this matter?

Great review Bo. I have a couple of issues with it but overall I think it will be a stunning watch. Unfortunately, I think it may be a little too big for me but I need to see one to know for sure. If I can pull it off it will be very tempting.

Hmm...now if that is true, as a diver, I fail to see the rationale behind that?

BTW, glad to see you posting again Bo.

Great to have you back Bo, we all missed you...

Very good post, and I agree with you, I will purchase a DSSD or SDDS (please let's not name the 116660 a "dipsy") when available, I love the domed crystal and the maxi dial, BUT I wish that the ring lock was satin or matte with no writing, the excessive writing just seems to detract from an otherwise almost perfect watch for me. Of course, I'd also want SEA DWELLER IN RED

I bounce back and forth on whther I like the watch.. but I am first on the list at my AD. Hoping that a Rolex will "tour" the Dipsy and DDII this summer to the US since I am sure they wont be available for some time here..

Thanks for the very well laid out thoughts. I am of a similar opinion. The "branding" has gone a bit too far, and dial, which could have been classy and easy to read with the maxi upgrade has become way too busy. I have heard some speculate that some of the writing (ring lock system and gas escape valve) was only for the show and that it will not be there when it comes out to the public. Anything else on this thought?

Like the others, I am glad you are back Bo. Do you share the consensus here that the rest of the Rolex line introduced last week is pretty lame?

Not going to go there, imo they have spoilt an icon and indeed Rolex seem intent on slowly moving away from heritage. I'm surprised they did not tamper with the 14060M this time.

The current SD is the bees knees.

Rolex should classify their professional models into 2 categories now : vintage (eg GMT2 master , SD , yachtmaster 1) and modern (eg GMT2-Ceramic , Deepsea, yachtmaster 2) , price difference being $3-4k , rather than totally removing the old models and replacing them with the new models ... what do u tink??

Now, if they didn't send the public DSSD out with the writing on the front, that would be very cool! My major objection is the busy dial and too much bling ... of course my taste isn't everyone's taste.

Bo, if that was what Rolex released I think I would be helpless to resist. I can't decide whether I'm glad they didn't or not.
