If you buy new from an ad they should everything and then some!. Maybe a catalog or the plastic box the watch was shipped in and a glass of champagne

Right, the Mrs has just been in to see them. They couldn't understand why the books/cards ect weren't already in the box with the watch. They were very apologetic and ordered everything I'm meant to have, said that they'd have the things soon and would post them out to me when they arrived.

So that seems to be sorted. Would 1 week be enough time to give them for this do you think? Also, should I have any concerns that my watch might not be genuine? I don't know how their warehouse/stock system works, but I still feel a bit dubious.

Thanks for all the replies so far. Once I receive all my 'bits' I'll then work out how to post pictures.

Every AD I bought from took the watch out in front of me, set the time, showed me all the books, etc. That is part of the AD experience and why you pay a premium. IMHO.

I wouldn't say there was any 'experience' to speak of. He made me a cup of tea when I got there, he went and got the watch, opened the box, I tried it on then he went away to take the links out. He took payment then asked if I wanted it gift wrapped. That was it. I could've just as well been buying a Casio.

I agree and never understood the "experience" part.

You buy a watch, pay for it and get out of the shop.

What difference does it make if the salesman kiss your offers you a cup of tea or champagne?

The Goldsmiths around me are now Omega boutiques so it could be the remaining Rolex ones are slapdash when it comes to Rolex. Def go back and get all the parts you are missing as you will want them if you come to sell. And try to get a cap or pen as an extra goodwill gesture.

OP had mentioned that he did receive those.

Not that you expect the AD to roll out the red carpet and break out the caviar and Johnnie blue, but I do believe that a glass of champaige, bottle of water, or my AD does have scotch is not out of the norm.

They have a nice VIP room for Rolex deliveries, if that is your thing. It is not mine. Give me a bottle of water, and a great deal and good WIS conversation and I am good. You can save your expensive single malt for the dude willing to pay MSRP.

My AD holds the warranty card for 30 days, I wasn't very fond of that but it is what it is. But you should have got the booklets.

I think it makes a difference to provide such service, it certainly doesn't hurt for them to go an extra mile and be extra accommodating.

I mean if there are two stores that sells the same watch at the same discount and one store treats me like a king while the other pretty much treats me just like I could barely afford the watch then which store would I go to for my next Rolex purchase? Hell even if that one store offers me a can of soda and chats it up with me, I'd rather go to that store on my next purchase than one that pretty much just sells me the watch and be in and out of the store within minutes.

Plus it should be essential the sales associate tries and shows you the watch features and how to set it and how it all works and what comes with the watch just like when you buy a car and the sales person walks you through everything the car could do. I rather they attempt to explain it to me than assuming I know how the watch works, if I do not feel like hearing or getting walked through a watch I am familiar with I could just as easily decline kindly.

AK797....What would be the difference between a 'normal' Goldsmiths, like the one I went to, and the boutiques that are around you? Do they deal in only high end items ect, and are they 'posher'?

RFX45....I'm with you on that one. I'm not particularly bothered that I wasn't offered a bucket full of caviar and a bottle of Moët, but it would've been nice to see a little more effort put in. But, I got my watch and I'm happy :)
