If you like it, I say go for it. I would try to hang on to the VC if you could. The Seamaster would be the more cost effective option. But looking at your collection he seems to be the odd man out already.

That being said, having just purchased my first Rolex over the summer, I've fallen in love with the brand. I figure if I have one really great watch that I can wear everyday, I'll be satisfied (at least for a while).

Attached is a pic of my current collection, and the piece I'm interested in. Is it over the top? Of course! But I love it, and think it would be fine for work (I'm an attorney), as well as with jeans

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Only thing I'd caution is that watches need service from time to time often for weeks and for me it irritates my wrist to wear the same watch all the time.

omg love the overseas and 2254.50. I would consider consolidating into 1 watch. I'm currently almost done with going from 3 watches to 2, and I think it is for the best.

Go for it, but like others I would be considering a PP or Lange for that money.

When I see a DD in the wild I don't feel anything negative for the wearer, on the contrary. If you are tired of the lot go for the DD, stunning dial

now i am confused.

in the same paragraph you are asking how it would look and the negative attention it might garner, and that you also wear what you like.

truth is, it will garner negative attention. Rolex's in general have the tendency to do that. add gold to it, and then add some stones. yes, people will create opinions based on how you present yourself.

but you said it yourself, you like it a lot and you wear what you like.

i still say go ahead and get it.

I've been doing simialr things....

Sell off 20 Invicta to get a Hamilton.

Sell of 5 Hamilton/Tissot etc to get an Oris.

Trade a few Oris/Tag to get an Omega.

Trade a few Omega to get a Rolex/PAM

Now fear I may end up trading current crop for an AP or Patek!

Welcome to the couch! No, you certainly are not nuts, the Day-Date is my favorite watch of all time. It can be worn with anything from suit to shorts. The jewels on the watch you've chosen are tasteful and not too over the top. The only point I may suggest is a stainless steel watch for a more active lifestyle as a backup piece. Great watch, I've worn mine just about everywhere, without a second thought.

I'd go with the DD, but skip the jeweled dial. The solid gold case and bracelet should be enough "wow" factor. Then again, my tastes are conservative, so to each their own. I've never been able to look at a man wearing a watch with stones (or any stones at all) and take them seriously.

Then again, if you're female it's totally fine and everything I said is meaningless :)

Nope, I'm a dude! I completely understand what you're saying - I've always told my wife that stones on anything are for women. However, after seeing this one in the flesh, I'm just enamored with it. As many others have said, if I pull the trigger, it probably makes sense to keep one of my more conservative stainless pieces.

X2. Keep one SS watch for the times you don't need to wear gold.

The DD 2 is an awesome choice. Cannot go wrong with that one. Perfect with a suit and works very well with casual wear.

Every now and then, I contemplate on thinning down my collection to reflect three or four pieces only. A Day-Date would definitely be one for me if that were the case.

I see a lot of people saying Lange but I don't know about wearing it with a pair of jeans. My next watch is going to be an all gold sub or DDII for almost all occasions and after that a Lange 1 for suits.

I'll PM you if I decide to part with her. She ain't cheap though! At one time, I had three 232s (it's a long story). The one in the pic is a super low serial number, and has never been worn.

I agree completely. I almost got a gold Vacheron Patrimony, but it looked weird with anything other than a bespoke suit.
