Voted for the 5712. It has more going on and it has a complication. Good luck!

5711 is classic and uncluttered.

5711 is the one I chose and the price was not relevant in my choice.

Interesting. I wondered if it was the price or the style that made the 5711 such a popular choice. Some people would say it's the price difference between the two, but that's not what the poll shows.

5712 without a shadow of a doubt , way more interesting . If I am paying 25k and over either is a precious metal or has complications. Simple

The 5711 has the classic Genta design, it's less polarizing, and has a traditional layout as well both from the front and back. I'm pretty sure if the poll included all men's Nautilus variants currently manufactured (so 5726, 5980 and 5990 as well), the classic 5711 would still win the poll.

Both have a huge problem you do not address - they are way too thin, like girly 8.5 mm thin.
Pick the 5712 of those two, both have a girly tiny wrist fit. |

You're my kinda guy friend...the kind that chooses a watch primarily based on things like thickness to avoid the possibility of seeming girly...or rational.

There's an older thread on r-l-x asking the same question. The answer from PP only compared 5712/5711, and the push pieces were the reason given (sorry it's in German): http://www.r-l-x.de/forum/showthread...=1#post3484241 |

5711. Prefer the simplicity of the dial.

Went for the 5712 and after 8 months don't regret 1 second, sure the 5711 is a beauty, but the 5712 is IMO much more interesting. About the thinness, when I first got it I needed a few days to get used to it, I was into much bigger/heavier pieces, but now I'm having trouble wearing big pieces, it's just too comfortable. About the WR, I know 60 meters is not a lot but is it possible to swim or not? Not talking about going a few meters deep, just normal swimming? Anyways for swimming I have my sub, but would like to know if ever one day I am at the beach with my Patek on the wrist...

Yes. It is possible to swim with a 5712. For 60m WR, you shouldn't be doing things like jumping off a diving board or any sports where you may hit water with force (e.g.. water skiing).
According to the response from PP that I linked to in my last post, they write: Quote:

5712, I like the moonphase, but the best would be 5712r if price is not the issue.

Connor MacLeod,
I am not a fan or follower of a hyper-sensitive politically correct culture without self-irony and a sense of humor. The great news is that there are plenty of forums to praise Patek's master pieces without this political correctness and constant fear of stepping on someone's toes. Happy New year. |

Oh and Happy New Year as well! Cheers, PS it sure is a pretty watch for my tiny girly wrist isn't it? And back to the OP: My reason for choosing the 5711 over the 5712 is I love the simple and plain yet elegant look of the detailed blue dial. Coupled with the silky smooth bracelet and comfortable thin yet sleek watch makes this a perfect SS choice for Patek fans. Iconic Genta design and look and also one built to last ages without ever going out of style.

I have to give role model credit as deserved: That is self-irony and a sense of humor. Top qualities of human character.

Both gorgeous pieces. I've only ever seen the 5711 in person and it was a stunning piece. Having said that, I'm really attracted to the uniqueness of the 5712 dial....
