The "special occasion" WAS the purchase of the watch.
I had seen the Cellini, was captivated, and had the $.
Never thought about another one until I spent time here.

Yes, I purchased my 16710 GMT Pepsi Z Serial after closing my first deal in the oil and gas industry, 3 years ago. I still own it , but I think I will flip it in the near future to fund my first vintage Rolex.

Bought a GMT IIC with my first paycheck as a full physician, walked into the AD, paid full price, forgot to bargain in my excitement. Best thing I ever bought, love wearing it everyday.

I bought mine because I was starting at my two Omegas and wondering why I didn't have one nice watch to wear all the time. I flipped the two of them for a 16610 M serial, and I wound up flipping that down the road for a 116610.

In 1989 at age 22, after collecting Hamiltons and others, I saved enough to buy a used Rolex for $855.
It was a 1981 Sea Dweller 1665.
Not for a special occasion, just thought as a watch admirer I should experience a Rolex. Sold it in 1992 for $1,250.

I was turning 35 and I had always wanted a Rolex. Since then (4 years), I've bought, sold, flipped and made a small collection.

Bought my Air King white dial, Roman numerals eight years ago after being sober for 6 months. I still have it but don't wear it much as I feel it's a bit small for my taste (34mm). It was enough to give me the watch bug though. The sweeping seconds hand of an automatic gets me every time and screw down crowns. Two details which the rest of the world are blissfully unaware of but bring me endless pleasure.

Yes, an "A" serial Sea-Dweller as a wedding watch (I went cheap on the ring so I could afford the watch). I wore it for seven years daily, before flipping it to buy a PAM 183.

I still have the PAM, but I miss the Sea-Dweller. I regret selling it. It was the most rugged, durable watch that I've ever owned. My one and only Rolex at this point is a '80 Air-King 5500.

Sub Date on my 21st Bday and Diamond Market DJ that same year for my success. Sadly I sold the Sub Date and the DJ was stolen.

no special occasion

it was 'time' to step up to the 'big leagues'

(as a WIS I know a 14060M is HARDLY big leagues but to someone my age it's good enough)

No, I just wanted one. However my WG Sub was purchased very near my 60th Birthday.
This is a great way to look at it!

This. And I have since traded my first (116610) for a 114060.

My parents bought me a GMT master II 16710 blue/red Y serial for my high school graduation. Sadly I do not still have it

I still keep on the look out for that watch, I would love to replace it one day

Got my 14270 after a big promotion at work in 2014. Sold it after 3 months as its size was tad bit too small for my 7 inch wrist and got a 214270, which fits perfectly.

Mine was more of a sh#% or get off the opt kind of thing. They discontinued the 14060M the year prior and the AD only had one left. I "visited" it a couple of times and came back and picked it up. I still have it and love it.

Not my first, but I did buy an Air King to celebrate my divorce (a long time ago).

AK is gone and I'm happily re-married...
