Agree--that's what I was going to suggest--look for something from 1965 (if I did my math correctly).

Happy upcoming birthday!
May be SD 4000, black Explorer II or Green Sub?

Well sure gold is good really at any age....

But no realistic suggestions can be made unless, budget, collection and some hint of a lifestyle ?

either something brand new and stainless to wear for the rest of your days ,,,
gold , as its a golden birthday , if funds permit.
or a 50 year old something to match , if you like the idea.

or a harley. ,,,,lol

Ha! I've done the Harley thing three times, but they've long since been sold.

I'd like to keep the price under $10k for the watch.

Here's a little bit about me: I'm a short, single guy (w/6.5-inch wrist); I'm a conservative who drives a nice, leather-appointed pickup truck; I travel exclusively in the states going to concerts and baseball games, but would like to tour Southeast Asia; and I own my grandfather's vintage solid gold Movado watch.

That should be enough.

Either a 116710 or a 116610 based on this. Both will leave you with cash left over. Both models can be bought pre owned in TT for your budget also...that is if you like the stainless/gold combo

According to your description and way of life. Agree with this. Modern Submariners will look too big on your 6 1/2 wrist.

Sub, GMT or EXP. Start looking around now at your local shops and see what sings.

If I were you I would go to a local AD with a lot of stock, try all the different ones on and then buy the one that puts the biggest grin on your face!!! Maybe even the top 2 that make you smile if you go the preowned route from a trusted seller on here if your looking for SS models?

With your brief lifestyle disscricption I would say a GMT for travels or timing when to flip your eggs & the 36mm or 39mm explorer. Both great everyday knock around watches and you could buy both for under 10k and have two great watches!!

With a username of Bond's First Watch, how can it be anything but a sub no date?

If you want to tour SE Asia, give me a shout when you hit Thailand and I will show you around Bangkok. :D

Since you are Bond, sub no date.

Since you travel a lot, GMT will come in handy.

Or 39mm explorer for your height and wrist size.

Those will be my 3 top pics.

All have black dials which can fly under the radar. I assume that is what you want since you are a single guy that drives a pick up with leather seats but not a sports car. My assumption is you like finer, practical things in life. But not too showy. You have done your Harley phase and is 'settling down'.

Now, go out and try them on and post your incoming!

For a 50th, I'd go Gold - depending on budget of course, but if you can then why not!

If budget doesn't allow then a Stainless Submariner w/o date is a great entry piece that is relatively inexpensive, classic and timeless. Here is a nice picture (not mine) of an 18k Submariner from my "drool file" to help you visualize. Good luck with your hunt and purchase. Welcome to the club...be forewarned...one is never enough
Yeah, man! That's the bizness!

SS sub or GMT gets my vote, based on your info. Try both the newer styles with ceramic and maxi dials, as well as the 5 digit references, their immediate predecessors.
