Just to be sure, the Milgauss movement is the 3131, the Explorer is the 3132, which adds shock absorbers. So technically the Milgauss is only advanced if you talk about its anti-magnetic shield. Or am I wrong in this assessment?

Basically, the question is if you want a watch that says 'green glass, lightning bolt!' every time you look at it, or a watch that minds its own business, a silent beauty..

Assuming it is comfortable and proportional on your wrist... as I've said on another thread, in my opinion the Milgauss is the true daily Rolex for the 21st Century. Dressy, sporty, quirky, and enough anti-magnetism to deal with anything innovation manages to introduce into our daily lives for the next 100 years Try out all the colours, including the new Z Blue GV, they are all special.

Forget about which one has what property, think about which one you want to wear.
For me, Explorer 39mm wears much more comfortable than the Milguass, and that's the one I want to wear.

I would say it depends on your college degree and what you aspire to be. If you are in a research field, you may want a Milgauss to represent the job you'll be doing. If you have a business degree, you may want an Explorer to keep reminding you to always explore. If you will be doing an office job, perhaps an Explorer II to give you a better sense of day and night when you are stuck in office (cave). If you travel a lot, then the GMT Master. I feel given the quality of ROLEX are similar, the name of the watch is important.

I would go the AT. Its a nice size and looks good.
Had to go throught the same dilemma 4 years ago between the AT and milgaus. Had my heart set out for the Milgaus because it was a rolex but when i went to try both on. The AT was a sure winner!! |

I prefer the Exp but the Milgauss sounds perfect for you.

I have and really like the 39mm Explorer I (214270) so I am admittedly biased. Moreover, I just never warmed up to the second hand on the Milgauss.
That said, I think you should get the Milgauss; it's you! Either watch is a go-to everything, everywhere, everyday piece. Congrats BTW.

From your post I would say Milgauss GV would be first choice...
Add Aqua Terra later - really like the larger version and the blue dial is pretty cool! Congrats and good luck! |

Explorer, no doubt. Because it's your graduation watch you probably won't ever flip it. You might get tired of the Milgauss but never of the Explorer.

Explorer I vs. Milgauss, help me pick a graduation watch!
I have an explorer 1, but I think you should go for the milgauss. You're graduating and it seems to have more meaning to you to get a watch that fits your degree. That's what it's all about, getting the one that will have more meaning to you. That's the watch you most likely won't get tired of. As for which kind you'll need to try them on to figure it out. As for the hefty price tag, you can try to look for one at the for sale section here. I bought at tourneau for my first Rolex, but I was more satisfied when I got my second here. And I'd advice to stay away from the extra crap tourneau tries to tag on to your purchase, it's worthless and they're kind of dicks about it.

Since the 'logical' recommendation would be a Milgauss because you're an engineer, go against the grain and get the Explorer.
Or just go with what sings to you the most. That's even a more logical choice. |

Well, I would skip the Omega and get both Rolex.
Oh, did it already. If I had to choose only one, Explorer would be it. |

I'd choose the Explorer but in 36mm (ref 114270).

For you it has to be the Milgauss GV. It will stand the test of time.
Alternatively... I have an Explorer 1 (36mm) and it is a fantastic watch. So, no bad choices here. Good luck. |

I'd pick the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra cal. 8508. I'm actually about to graduate with a bachelors in mechanical engineering so I tend to gravitate towards edgy engineering with the anti-magnetic parts that allow for the AT to have a date function and the omission of the faraday cage.
