hi,

so what's with the green writing and gmt hand? why is it green? I also find several others i.e. 116710 in red or blnr in blue....what's the difference?

I remember my older model gmt 16713 had a golden gmt hand.

I'm impulsive when it involves watches. A couple of years back I wanted to give myself a Rolex treat, as up till then I did not have any Rolex watches.

Walked out of the AD with 3. 116610LN, 116613LB, and 116713LN.

I thought that was it, Rolex watches acquired, life will go on.....until I joined this forum.

Initially the 116713LN ticked all the right boxes, as months passed I wore it less and less because my attention was focused on the rest of the Rolex range.

Nowadays I hardly wear it, will probably gift it to my dad, who is a Patek individual, and has one Rolex, the 18238.

Again, I applaud your decision making process Eric👍
Thanks a lot for your kind words and thoughts, Patrick. They mean a lot.

In total agreement with you about impulse buying. I can go a few years and purchase no watches, but when I start, it usually ends up with two or more over a short period of time. In the end, it usually averages out about 1 or 2 a year.

Thanks again.

No expert here, but I believe the use of green hand on the 116713 and other models after the 16710 was discontinued is meant as sign of the 50th anniversary of the GMT Master.

Thanks, Tony. This is what I am contemplating now. Eventually, I will obtain a Day-Date and that will be my final watch purchase (for real). I am just not sure if I want to do that now, or get one or two more pieces before then. I know, the troubles we face.

Eric, I´ve also been following your posts over the last months and I know that the 118238 is your dream watch. So my advice also is to put everything towards it and not buying other pieces on the way.

Once you´ve got it I´m sure most of the pieces in your collection will hardly get any wrist time anymore.

Thanks for the advice, Felix. It makes a lot of sense as with every other purchase, it takes me a little further away from being able to obtain my grail.

You are not the first one that has told me that once I get the 118238, the other watches in my collection will hardly see anymore wrist time. You are probably right.

Eric, I never regretted the 116713 and wear it often. Imho this is the best TT watch ever made.
I own a 18238 as well and see no reason why these cannot coexist in a collection. The GMT is classy and sporty while I use the DD often for more formal occasions. It's nice to have a choice.

Thanks Tony. I would not say you are a bad influence, more of an enabler. Hell, this whole Forum is filled with enablers.

I doubt I would regret the purchase of the 116713 LN either. It is a superb reference. I guess the situation I am in is to choose whether or not to pull the trigger on the GMT now and put off the purchase of the DD to a later time, or pick up the DD in the near future and forget about the GMT.

I guess in retrospect, one could get the DD and consider adding the GMT later. For me, I just wanted to be able to add the DD as the last watch purchase I will ever make for myself. I know, it sounds silly, but this is just one of my weird ways of thinking.

Thanks for the suggestion, Felix. The purchase of these two pieces have been constantly on my mind for the past several days to the point of being unhealthy. Any specific reason why you are emphasizing on the purchase of the 118238? Thanks again.

IMHO because you already have GMT Master II 116710 BLNR....

Having the 118238 will take you to the next exciting level.....

Thanks for sharing your personal story and picture. The TT GMT looks fantastic on your wrist. I hope you get it this August.

Somehow this thread got turned into a TT GMT vs. DD debate. Need to get it back on track. Thanks again to all who replied with their thoughts and comments about both amazing timepieces. Your opinions have been greatly appreciated.

For the record, still on the fence between the 116713 LN and 118238. Both are fantastic references in their own right and serve personally serve different purposes for me. With the all the talk of the pending price increase (Canada not affected yet), I don't want to make an impulsive decision. Again, thanks for all of your time.

I´m not a fan of impulse buys just because of an imminent price increase at all. But in this case I´d go for the 118238 as soon as I can because we both know that it´s only a matter of time until you do it, no matter if you also purchase the 116713 LN or not.

The price increase is here already in parts of Europe and it hurts much more on 18K than on TT models.

If you´re still lusting for the TT GMT you can easily acquire it afterwards. Although it´s a very nice reference I doubt that you´ll still want it.

Thank you to all who replied with their comments, suggestions and photos.

After much deliberation, I have chosen not to purchase the 116713 LN at this moment and instead focus on saving up and obtaining the 118238, hopefully in the near future (maybe for my 40th birthday). As mentioned above, I don't want to make an impulsive purchase just because of a pending price increase.

The GMT Master II 116713 LN is a superb reference as mentioned before, but the fact that I always put this one off is my subconscious telling me that I don't really need this watch. Thanks again for all of your time.
