Yes. Also the new Ferrari 488 is way overpriced! Ferrari will likely cut prices until they are in line with the corvette z06

It's a real shoddy product isn't it? So much so that a bunch of intelligent men and women spend a fair bit of their free time perusing this forum learning about and admiring the product. Rolex doesn't have a quality control issue. Nothing made by man has been or will ever be percect. . .

People shopping Patek usually look at AP, Lange, VC, FPJ etc. Perhaps Rolex at some level ie Aqunaut or 5711 but not for most part.
Well we are on a rolex forum talking about patek, so yes, many people here are looking at either adding more Rolexes/"low"-end to their collection or skipping to the next segment. Likewise, most here are much less enthusiastic about Omega / Breitling, so yes again, while not directly cross-shopping a PP to a Rolex, many who are looking for a new time piece are consciously deciding whether or not to jump to the next higher segment.

The fact that Hong Kong sales have slowed well before the currency drop, and Patek has just devalued their own watches can certainly be indicative that they need to increase their customer base. Using your own example, Patek released the aquanaut in '97 to attract "younger" buyers... aka close the gap.

Hence the reason why the shitty Ferrari California, POS $66k Masterati Ghibli, or Porsche Boxster was released . Either lower prices, make cheaper models or miss that bigger piece of the pie.

By the way, it cracks me up to read Rolex and low-end in the same sentence. There seems to be a lack of real perspective here sometimes. And the day Rolex lowers prices in the U.S. will be the day I start searching for flying pigs as well as migratory flocks of birds.

PP lowered prices in Australia. Our currency has dropped considerably in value as well.

Was actually at the RSC in NYC yesterday picking up my first one (Explorer I) and, without prompting, a sales rep told me that if I wanted another one to pick it up sooner rather than later. Because a 5-10% increase was coming soon. I tried to pin her down on the date but she basically said in two-three weeks.

Oh boy....

Last time really: No Rolex AD knows in ADVANCE and any that tell you they do are full of rubbish. They know the day they get new price book Rolex does not and never has telegraphed w/ exception of currency adjustment in certain markets.

I see no reason why US prices couldn't decrease due to currency appreciation. But they'd decrease along with every other sku.

But since the Swiss franc is also appreciating it's unlikely.

Hi There !

My local AD gets 1 week notice of "any changes", the same day the new price list comes, that day new prices are implemented...

That said, actually, regarding gossip, they know nothing at all ....

Cheers !

that is what probably everyone would have said about PP a week ago, and who predicted oil to be at half price from only a few months ago, and the Swiss Central Bank decision ...and and and. Nobody here (or wherever) has a crystal ball

Doubt it. Rolex is still relatively affordable although I do yearn for the pricing from 8-10 years ago....

When the 36mm DJ starts hitting five figures, then they've gone too far.

And which watch manufacture has not increased prices and improved their QC at the same time?

I cant see Rolex lowering prices anytime soon..

I was at a AD here Dubai today and was advised that Rolex prices went up by 5% from 1st Feb... Patek illness is slowly starting creep in now, the search has started.. :banghead :

My crystal ball says there will NOT be a price DECREASE. There will be a price INCREASE, my crystal ball is a bit cloudy at the moment and cannot tell me when that is though. The ball usually clears up the day the increase happens, so I'll keep you guys posted

I heard it's coming Feb 31st
