Is it normal for a watch to stop running in a winder?

I use gbwinders which you can adjust the winding frequency. I find that Rolexes need less frequencies than most other brands - my AP will stop on the winder if placed on the Rolex side of the wonder after sll

I got this Chinese-made winder recently, mostly to keep the wife's watches running, and to occasionally move the oils around safe queens and watches that I have for sale (I'm not a very proactive seller!). It has settings for 650, 750, 850, 1,000 and 1,950 TPD, and can be programmed for clockwise, anti-clockwise or alternating. It cost me HK$650, or about US$85. The holders can be used in two positions to take both our bracelet sizes (5.5 and 7.5 inches). For Rolex I keep it on 750 TPD, and never had a watch stop.

Also surely, you can't over wind a watch (on a watch winder) or shorten the life of the watch even if it wound say 2000 times a day?? A Rolex is a quality timepiece.

I think you are right that you can't "overwind" a watch because there is a slip clutch mechanism that protects the mainspring from being "overwind". However the wear happens on that mechanism itself when there are excessive rotations on the watch.

I'm sure you're correct, but the wear and tear of excessive rotations is so minute it's not even worth worrying about. I'd say there will be much more wear on the watch winder than the watch.

Imaging how many times it would rotate going for a 3 km run, especially if you run like a girl! Haha

I suppose that begs the question how many times would the watch mechanism rotate on an average or active person wearing it 16 hours a day, as you never hear of one not keeping time even on old retirees :D
