Ah, I was curious because you said Rolex could be #3. Since you are someone with lots of experience at the top end of a lot of manufacturers, I was curious what you felt could rank above Rolex other than PP.

Rolex is clear favorite for me. My second is Seiko for sentimental reasons but I really love Journe, Urwerk, ALS, Breitling, Hublot, G&F, Bovet,... too many to mention. And of course there are some Patek I really like, like Ken's 5970; and there's the old reference of the VC Overseas Chrono, the AP Chrono 39mm, some pieces from Breguet and IWC...

Rolex has the look and feel I like, but Patek has the finishing and detail like no other brand.

Rolex is not my most favourite brand but I do love wearing my DJ2.

Brand wise, I prefer AP and PP (trying to acquire one as we speak).

Can't afford my favorite brands (yet - maybe one day or if I liquidate) so Rolex would have to be my current #1 with Seiko coming in at #2. Seiko is just so much fun, impeccable quality, history, and affordable :

If I were out in the wilds with various hazards I would go with my Casio Rangeman.

Rolex has been my #1 brand since the '70s (am I really that old?), but it has been bumped down to #2, at least for now. I recently went looking for a nice thin dress watch and discovered Jaeger-LeCoultre (I am not a fine watch aficionado) with its rich history and reputation for fine watch making. I wanted something different from a chronograph and really liked the look of their entire line, but especially the Master Ultra Thin and Reverso. Plus, I kind of like what I think is its under-the-radar status, especially among the unwashed like myself.

Good choice. I grabbed this because it's under the radar, and so slim that it slides under a shirt cuff with no problem.

Are Rolex my favourite brand? They probably have the most watches, mostly vintage, that I like but I no longer own one. My favourite watch is a Damasko DC66 which is now my only watch after once "needing" 12 watches including 6 Rolex.

Agree on the Seikos. I used to own that exact Marinemaster. Here's a pic.

I really like Jaeger LeCoultre, especially the classic reverso watches. For everyday wear my Panerai is enjoyable as is my IWC. But, Rolex puts out a solid performer that does what it is designed to do with assured longterm reliability...and decent resale.

I started this crazy obsession with TAG Heuer as a late teen, then Omega in my 20's, Breitling in my 30's, and made it to Rolex in my 40's. I think the only logical place I may go next is Patek? But the Rolex will never leave my side, while some of the others have come & gone.

I started this wonderful obsession with TAG Heuer in my teens, moved to Omega in my 20's, then Breitling in my 30's, and now Rolex in my 40's. The only other place I'm likely to try is Patek? But unlike some of the others that have come and gone, Rolex will stay by my side forever!

I have to say Panerai is right there with Rolex for me. I really enjoy the fun factor they bring, and the various strap changes (oem and aftermarket) to give it my own look.

After that, I really like IWC. However, the models I want (the BP) are so outrageously priced, I don't think I could ever justify buying one. I'd rather buy another Rolex (either a Daytona or a YM 2 SS or venture out to AP) for that kind of money.

I like JLC a lot too. But their casual line (which is what I would be interested in) doesn't quite do it for me aesthetically speaking.

Omega. If vintage I love Universal, Longines, Eterna, Omega, Tissot etc, and I love vintage Rolex, Patek and JLC but unfortunately I don't own one.

JLC -- the whole range works for me, from the dressy to the rugged. I even like their clocks. Sinn looks really interesting but I don't have one yet.

Rolex has been my favorite since I was a kid in the 60's and my first real watch, bought when I was 21. The other brands that I fancy enough to buy are the following, in order of preference:

1. GP
2. ML
3. Breguet and BP but really just for a few of their sportier models, rather than the dress watches they're best known for. I like the history of the Type XX and FF more than the very fine dresss models.
4. MKII.

Probably not a popular position on a Rolex forum, but Rolex is not on my list of top favorites, although I do have several and wear a couple in rotation.
ALS, PP, VC, AP each have many references that are far more interesting than most Rolex offerings, although at much higher price points typically.
Having said that, it's tough to beat a GMT or a Sub as a high quality tool watch.
