^^^ This is not what is being said. In any case, I know Argentina very very well. Same with Brazil. To deny that these are dangerous places, with rampant and growing violent crime rates is just plain silly and careless. If you want to play the lottery, knock yourself out. I prefer to just keep a low profile and enjoy the places with the least amount of worries possible.

In any case, this is just my (very well informed) perspective and the last I will say about it.

Well said. I think it sometimes becomes a matter of national pride and wanting to deny that there are things you can do safely in some countries that you can't do in others. Sometimes reality is difficult to accept. I'm also done with this thread. For any who decide to wear a gold Rolex in BA: Mucha suerte!

To the OP: please don't wear a watch when leaving your house and make sure to hire some black ops personnel to guide you when coming to Lat Am, oh, and don't forget to double up on life insurance, cause you are surely to get hurt if you step outside US territory.
I have a friend who lives in Rio, relatives born and living in Caracas Venezuela, and a girlfriend who lives in Mexico city, in Caracas they practically don't go out after 7PM because it's very dangerous, in Rio my friend never wears a watch, another friend got mugged 2 times in 1 month in Rio, and he doesn't wear watch or jewelry, and my girlfriend in Mexico also tells me she doesn't wear her Chanel watch because too many chances of getting mugged

I agree 100%, the USA isn't a safe country, but practically all countries South of Texas are even more dangerous IMO
