Seems like too much risk for reward. I would just search here under our trusted sellers and find what you are looking for. My last two purchases have been here, and I have been more than impressed with the transactions and savings.

I'm actually not really worried at all that it's stolen. This is a large local pawn chain and I'm sure they do their due diligence with stuff like this. Too much at stake to deal in stolen goods. We'll see. I'll sleep on it until Monday. Not sure what I'll do.

Alright, update time.
I went back to the shop today and tried to deal a little more. I asked about service history, and not surprisingly, they didn't know. The price for the '89 Sub is still $4200 out the door. However, while there, I saw a new piece in the case. They had a 2010 Explorer II (Purchased new in 2011) in amazing shape. Black dial. I wouldn't have known it wasn't new, had it not been 4 years old. Comes with full kit. The price for that is $3850 out the door. I honestly can't say which I like more. The ExII is a gorgeous watch! I also had the thought that the Sub will need serviced, just to be safe....tacking on another 400-500. The ExII will likely not need a service for a few years. But, am I right that the Sub will retain value better? Thoughts guys? |

Don't get distracted. The Exp II is likely also to be in need of a service very soon.

I second this - the risk + inconveniences (getting it checked out) outweigh the rewards.

Ha ha, I get distracted by most things fairly easily. Service needs aside, is there a reason to pick one over the other? I really like them both equally. I had never seen an Explorer II in person today. They're beautiful! The directional brushed bezel really caught my eye.

Well, I've seen lots of pics online of both watches. The Submariner in person was what I expected. The Explorer was much more impressive than in pictures. But yeah, I'm in no hurry.
