The Gemini IV, 45th anniversary and mitsukoshi stand out as the only tasteful ones to me.
Anything with a mission patch on one of the sub-dials looks tacky to me, let alone additional text like 'what would you do in14 seconds'. What were they thinking? I think the standard moonwatch with hesalite trumps most of the LE's. Thank you Omega for not messing with that design!

Don't own a Speedy, yet. Once I get past the manual wind and no date I will buy a Speedy with one of these dials. Would also love a display back if possible.

Panda dial
"Italia" dial
Brown dial
Dial with red 1957

The alaska project is much better as it has black hands, the standard panda models are really tough to see.

The Silver Snoopy is stunning in person, and you get over the cartoonish elements pretty quickly due to the following factors:
-The rest of the dial is really stunning. The oversized markers add a great 3D element, and legibility is incredible.
-The solid caseback with the enamel and silver specks is a work of art. Reminds you of some kind of gilded marble bust or ancient vase.
-The strap is the most comfortable I've ever worn.
-The ceramic tachymeter bezel with inset lume is fantastic, and really adds an otherwordly aesthetic to the entire piece.

That's the oneto beat!!

Gemini IV has always been my favorite, a close second would be the Mitsukoshi.

Very interesting indeed Fr. John. I thought however that the FOIS was a limited edition and came with leather strap.
Are you referring to "another" FOIS.

Thank you for educating me. :)

I've owned a couple of dozen Speedy Pros over the years including a vintage 105.012 but the only one left in my collection is the First Omega in Space. It's not an LE but openendedly numbered. I love the vintage look coupled with the reliabilty of the modern 1861 movement.

In sense though, my FOIS is an LE (1/1) as I replaced the OEM case back with this custom tribute to Wally Schirra's Mercury flight:

With all the LE moon watches Omega seems to introduce at Basel each year, I realized that Omega had focused on moon watches and overlooked the first Omega to be launched into space. Wally Schirra wore his personal CK2998 on his Mercury flight and opened the door to NASA for Omega.

So back in 2004 when I came across a set of CK2998 hands, I decided to build up a commemorative for the "First Omega in Space." A friend donated an 861 movement and I found someone to create the appropriate case back. The problem was coming up with a straight lugged case without crown guards. So the project went on the back burner.

Fast forward to Basel 2012 and the introduction of the FOIS. I immediately placed my order. I also ordered the Omega ref. 1125 bracelet to complete the vintage look. Upon arrival, I was disappointed with the OEM case back. Omega chose to honor the watch rather than the astronaut who wore it. But no problem: with a final polish, my custom back completed my tribute to a brave Mercury pilot.

My back includes the Sigma 7 mission patch with the inscription reading "First Speedmaster Worn in Space - Schirra - Mercury Atlas 8 - Oct. 3, 1962."

Thanks for the comments!!

In hindsight, do you still favor the FOIS over a true Vintage??

I am heavily debating which way to go...

I had a 105.012 as worn by the moon walkers and gave it up for the FOIS. My watchmaker was concerned that cal. 321 parts were becoming scarce and he felt the (1)861 movement would be around longer and be more reliable. He particularly likes the rhodium plating.

Subjectively, I like the vintage look especially on the 1125 bracelet.

And of course, my custom case back was a nice incentive. It had been in the drawer long enough.

My major concern was the hesalite crystal. I have always preferred hesalite but the "gray halo" is not as noticeable on the FOIS. My dealer says it is due to the FOIS dial.

I love both of mine. (1957 is not per se limited but still.)
On the list to some day get are:
1. Gemini 4
2. Apollo Soyuz
3. 35th Apollo 11

Prices of Gemini 4 and Apollo 11 have gotten quite high in last few years so it might take a while.

Not really... Dial color is actually off white but looks white in certain light... Markers are not inverse lume.. It is just an off white version of the regular speedy dial

My LE Solar Impulse Speedmaster!

It is a great travel watch. Real GMT functionality (local hour hand can advance independently in one hour increments, without stopping the movement), date tied to local hour, column wheel Chrono, titanium case and bracelet, Carbon Fiber dial... What else can you ask for?!

Here it is, on its element, as we are about to fly from Frankfurt to Houston...
