If Seiko can do it on sub $2K Anantas, as can some micro-brands, then there's no excuse for it from AP.

If you're going to seriously consider switching from a Daytona, do yourself a favour and look at the VC Overseas Chronograph, with its big date at 12.
Whoa, there! Gotta strongly disagree, a centred date for some may be preferable but the VCO's date is overlarge and squashes down the VC logo, not cool with me at all. Much prefer the ROC's small subtle date.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one then – I much prefer when form and function work synergistically rather than form dominating function.
I could live with the logo branding being a tad smaller than on the regular Overseas, as the date is the more important feature of the two.

And what I meant when highlighting Seiko's ability to orient the numbers on the date wheel

Anyway, OP if you decide on the AP ROC, I'm sure you'll be a happy camper, even with a skewiff date window.

I love the ROC, but have to agree with you about the orientation of the date.

I really would love to tell you to go for the Daytona and save yourself 7-9k...

But, in all conscience, I can't. I would be lying. And that would not be right.

If you can swing the extra $$$ go for the AP. It is in a class by itself.

Ok...I've looked again and can see what you're getting at. I've never noticed this before, and so would not say that it bothers me personally. I (briefly) owned a 116520 but this was not one of the many reasons why I didn't love it.

the date function drives me crazy on my G series diver.. it sits a little low and really drives me nuts... that said. back to your predicament... hmm, AP ROC or DAYTONA.. tough life lol. AP if you dont mind the extra cash.. most importantly go through a solid trusted seller on here, you'll only end up spending a few extra K over the daytona and save a few K from the AD. I'd also see if you can pick up a rubber strap like on the italy special edition - probably around 600 bucks at AD and totally worth it! two watches in one!!!!!! thats my humble opinion...

The AP is so much nicer. If you go onto Hodinkee at http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/audemar...nograph-review, you will understand that there really is no comparison -- AP ROC is superior hands down.

I prefer the Nautilus but you can't beat the price of a gold AP.

I have both. a black daytona and a white AP ROC

Im very fond of both. Id say the daytona is easier to wear and is much lighter. the bracelet is also more comfortable imo.

The AP bracelet feels too......tight. Maybe its my wrist size but Im at the point where I cant go up or down a link without it feeling excessively tight or loose. which has caused me to order the plots leather strap and deployment clasp from my AD. I also dislike the double deployment clasp design. I would rather have a traditional single deployment for easier 1 hand use.

Im gonna share something with you though. If I could go back, I wouldnt have bought my 26320. I would have bought a 26300 Panda Dial. In fact, if there was a 26300 Panda Dial in Taiwan, I would trade my 26320 for it, straight up. The only reason I have the 26320 was because I couldnt find a 26300 Panda Dial in my country, and I was not willing to buy a 2nd hand watch that I couldnt inspect in person before paying for it.

I don't see the need for a date on a chronograph, but that is just me. I'm retired, and don't care what date it is.

I also compared both side by side last week while at my AD. The AP stands out quite a lot compared to the Daytona. I know a lot would pick the Daytona for the exclusivity and history but I would pick the AP any day of the week and twice on Sunday. It is really an amazing piece.

Good luck!

Are you aware that they do a 1.5 link?
That might resolve your fitting issue.

I use the 1.5 link in the summer, and go down to the normal size link in the winter.

Which AD were you at in Dallas? Eiseman should have a white dial Daytona soon; I sold them mine at the beginning of July. I know they send in new watches for a service.

I would go with VC over the AP, as I too don't like the date display on the AP. Depending on what else you have, I would also consider the Glashutte Seventies Chrono - very beautifully and technically sound.

But I would take the AP over the Daytona. I love the details and fit of the AP.

Thanks Guys...

Also for OP The Hunter

I'm about 7.25" wrist and I have to say I find the ROC super comfy - as others have said AP all day!

Now, let's see that incoming thread
