Love that dial.

Blue concentric is the nicest DD dial. Don't like any of the DD40 dials. Especially the new style Roman numerals they are using.

Hmm, I liked the DD2 when I tried it on, but... it was quite a chunk of watch. Also, the new dials are much more special looking in one's hand. I recommend seeing the new dials for yourself.

DD40 looks more balanced and complete to my eye. Different dial variations still come out over time.

Dd40

DD40 for me. On paper yes it's only 1mm, but on the wrist it feels and wears quite differently to me at least. I can "pull off" a DDII, but it's not my style. The DD40 embodies what I like in most all my watches: updated classics. The proportions of the DD40 are much more appeasing to my eyes.

Kind of hard to compare a new model watch to the "replacement " .. Is there a better old model rolex then the new?

The 40s look awesome! Especially the new roman dials.

For me a DD should come with Romans, and the DDII's classical Romans are the best. The deconstructeds don't look too bad but then having only every other one looks like a size design flaw.

Does the 40mm DD harken the end - the death knell - of the giant watch trend? I'm thinking it does, and watches will now revert to the 40mm mean. Invicta: what say you?

My thoughts exactly. The alternating design on the 40 is a modernized twist on a classic watch.

I prefer full Romans and the 41

New dials, new movement, smaller case (albeit 1mm) sealed the deal by a mile.
DD40 kills!

DayDate II for me, but I could see myself picking up a DD40 in white gold.

Better to some not to others. There will always be a market for DDII.
