I think all vintage Rolex sports watches, and their "accessories" are overpriced. I've been collecting for two decades now, in the 90's you could buy a double red SD for $1500.
Supply and demand yes, but eventually people will get tired of their collections and the money they have wrapped up in them. Might take 20 years, but that $1000 bezel insert could be worth $50 or $100. (and yes, I am putting my flame suit on as I type this out) |

My favourite 5513 has the original so called fat font serif insert. I think it looks great, as it was meant to be. Actually thinking of removing the now very hip shell Cordovan strap and putting the original rivet bracelet back on. Never too sure on the reliability of these old bracelets! Maybe I should send them all to that chap in Hong Kong. Is it Michael Young?

Got this insert recently, would like some insights from the inhouse subject matter experts on how legit it is.
I have it overlayed on my 5D Exp2. |

The same thing could b said about many things, like houses n cars. Should have bought that house in SF for $250k. 😜 I blame it on the autoconnect. |

Went to a specialist Rolex parts shop in Tokyo last week. They had a fine selection of faded inserts, the cheapest of which was over $2,000.
$1,000 might look cheap a few years from now... |

Supply and demand as well as many were changed out through the years since they are fairly cheap from rolex and most people didn't want a faded bezel 30,40 sometimes 50 years ago

Overpriced for the amount of material you're buying? Absolutely. Overpriced for the scarcity, who knows. Dealers are going to continue to test the waters so long as there are buyers willing to pay. All things vintage are going for a premium. I suspect the market will level out at some point.

TBH, I see a few dealers trying to curb the market pricing and control it. Eventually they will be outpriced by the market as well (I think some of them already are at this point and are forced to find buyers before acquiring pieces.).
