I've never heard of shining the soles of shoes...
That said I'm over 40 and have 5-digit Rolexes but also like the new versions.

28, prefer the 6 digit references but I'm really not a flashy guy and dress as casual as I can in all situations.

I'll be 66 here in a little bit and I like the older styles and also some of the newer styles.

I prefer the 114270 over the 214270. I like the 114060, but I prefer to own the 14060M.

The 116200 63600 pleases me more than earlier iterations.

The 116710BLNR is a trailblazer and a dazzler, both in light-play and proportion.
