Rolex took all my money. Now I can't buy anything else.

Have you flipped any since you declared the end of your flipping? I'll be honest that your post and logic inspired me to end mine.

Only one flip, and it was during a moment of weakness.

I was in Vegas with the little lady and after feeling pretty good at the tables, I wandered into the VC boutique.

This was my first mistake. The second was accepting some wine while I browsed. They showed me a limited edition Overseas with a color combo that I've always loved, on a runner strap (love rubber).

After promising me a dinner at a fancy schmansy steak house I bought it.

In good conscience, I couldn't keep two overseas. I ended up flipping the blue VC overseas for a blue dial omega that I always regretted moving in the past.

Got a couple of bucks back in my pocket and still had a sweet blue chrono.

I've thought about moving my bathyscape as I rarely wear it, but the more I think about it, I'm just going to add the next one.

I don't anymore. I have more Rolex than others because frankly they are cheaper and hence easier to collect.

Smart. Can you post a pic of the new VC and current collection? Would love to see it/them.

Your post made a lot of sense about getting minimal and temporary satisfaction out of a flip. I'm really trying to take a longer time before buying a piece so that I don't flip it later.

I think a diverse brand rotation is the key to happiness for me.

Each brand has their own distinct reason I like it (AP, RM, Rolex, etc).

Sure thing. I'll start a new thread as not to hijack this one.

And about to head to xfit, so it'll be later in the day. But I'll pm you when I do.

Ps, glad to help. I've been trying to live that way as well, and it working. But for sure, I've had my moments of debate. It takes practice.

Fully agree on brand diversity, but I'll admit, I've fallen pretty hard for AP. I really want a second one, but it will be a few years before I'm comfortable spending that money on another watch. I really want a Diver or ROO with a ceramic bezel.

Agree and almost everything is outside of Rolex now in my rotation, but at least 1 SS Rolex is almost mandatory in ANY rotation...it's the quintessential tool watch for me

The #1 thing I look for in a watch is a rich history. It just turns out most of those are made by Rolex. If I had the money I'd get a Patek... Someday... I wanted a Navitimer before but those things get bigger and bigger, flashier and flashier each year.

Why do YOU stick only/mostly with Rolex?

I've gone back and forth a few times between brands, and I think Rolex covers all the needs for a below 10K price point, as daily wearer. Sure there are other 8-9K options, but they are not Rolex..

i have a few rolexes. actually 2 rolex and one ancient tudor. i'm an ironworker and wear the heck out of my watches. i wear rolex because of it's style, durability and accuracy. it along with me took some serious knocks and lived to tell about it. the dings, scratches and scars only add character to the look of a well worn rolex. the only thing my rolex won't stand up to is ivory soap. soap scum will slowly kill the look of a good watch so the shower is the only time i'm without mine.

I have a diverse collection but Rolex figures prominently in it because IMO it is the BEST value in all precious metal sport watches.

When I bought my first, it was only to have one luxury watch in my "collection" of cheap watches and all I can say is that one Rolex leads to another.

Rolex has a very interesting history, are affordable, and a very good value.

Well...to boil it all down, it's only a watch (I know, gasp...the horror). If you are wearing something that brings you carefree joy, then that's a good thing, no matter the brand.

Agree on AP. I still keep a non date sub lying around for weekends, although my RO is creeping into weekend rotation more and more.

Bottom line is with this combo I think I am moving away from buying any new watches.....period. So I am not only moving away from Rolex, I am moving away from watches as a whole.

But I still can't get a Rose Gold RO out of my head.......

Rolex has a strong AD network and service if I need them.

A commodity for sure, but the Vintage/used Rolex is a huge market unto itself.

I don't hang with docs and lawyers so I have never seen a Patek or VC in the wild.

I wouldn't know where to get a Patek serviced and from what I read they are far more expensive to maintain.

My friends and employees notice and comment on my $100 Croton monster and never realize I own a Rolex.

For me, I find Rolex watches most aesthetically pleasing and I just like their rugged nature. That's not to say other watches are not rugged and pleasing to the eye, but I just associate that with the brand.

Personally, I also feel that a Rolex is a watch that happens to be jewelry, as opposed to jewelry that happens to be a watch. I'm not a fan of jewelry for men, more of my personal taste.

Lastly, I find the Rolex brand to be unambiguously masculine. That's not to say they don't make beautiful ladies watches, or that their product line doesn't appeal to women, it's just that I feel in the modern era a lot of males look, dress, and act like overgrown boys and I like a brand that says "adult."

Admittedly, all my points are really just my feelings and a product of my imagination, I suppose. But that's how I feel.

Why do YOU stick only/mostly with Rolex?

Quality, Design, Comfort, Functionality, Reliability and History of the Brand.

I like the fact that Rolex maintains tradition and heritage when it comes to design. New watches are updated but their lineage is evident. Forty six years from now when I treat myself to a new Sub for my 100th birthday, chances are that it will look pretty similar to the one I am wearing today.

1) great value for compared to other high end brands, esp. PM models.
2) rugged and reliable- they're tough and can go years without issues
3) sizing- I'm looking at you, AP. I have small wrists and 40mm is the max for me. ROC? Love it. Diver? Adore it. ROC? Amazing... but not on my wrist
4) lots of servicing options- michael young, independent and RSC options
5) for the most part, classic designs.

I've tired to ad Omega, Breitling and IWC to my collection but sold them all and gone back to all Rolex. I really love Omega as a brand but they never seem to stick. Would like to ad a JLC Reverso at some point but who knows.
