Congratulation to you both on the 17 years and a lovely watch, it is simply stunning. I had this on cross and the dial is simply amazing. What lovely gesture:-)

I agree - you are a truly blessed and very lucky man indeed. Congrats. Great place to buy them, too. How about buying her one this time?!

Such generosity and kindness I can only dream of. On the flip-side I bought my wife a lovely TT YM Rolex, and she's the one who earns good money! Go figure...

There is none like her! - I LOVE MY WIFE!!!

Congratulations on a wonderful marriage. What a joy to have such a partner in life...and such a love, which is always about giving.

Your story triggers a long ago memory for me.

In 1984, I visited Lucerne. Summertime. I was 19. I wore a Seiko dive watch at the time...it would be many years before I could afford a Rolex. Nevertheless, I walked into Bucherer's. Just to browse.

Suddenly, though, the watches disappeared. Of much greater interest then anything in the display cases was the young woman standing behind one of those cases.

Early twenties. Pretty. Dark brown hair. Lovely brown eyes. A friendly, modest smile on her lips. Dimples.

And not another customer in sight. I approached, using the Rolex display as a pretext. After a few moments though, I told her I was much more interested in talking to her than in anything in the store. Her smile broadened...

Her name was Huguette. She was half Swiss, half Dutch. She was all beauty. And nice.

She agreed to meet me for dinner after work.

We had a lovely and romantic evening. Quite innocent, quite chaste. A kiss goodnight.

I left Switzerland the next day, on my way to Italy. To Florence, a town she particularly liked.

We exchanged numbers, addresses. We communicated by letter for some months...occasionally spoke on the phone.

Then I stopped hearing back from her.

I never saw her again.

I hope life played out well for her and brought her love and joy.

For all time, she will have a special place in my mind and heart.

Thanks for reminding me, through your post, of that long ago love that almost was....

Just to update you all: We had our Switzerland trip interdicted by an order from my superiors.

We will re-plan this trip for early next year. In the mean time my lovely wife is the owner of a lovely 13 carat Tanzanite bracelet for our anniversary. A vB 6/6 beauty!

I am willing to wait for my Grail Daytona meteorite but .....sigh....! Sometimes I hate my job! But I always love my precious wife!!!

She is really my GRAIL everything! I am not deprived!

I meant to respond to this post before we went on vacation in September or should I say, interrupted vacation.

Lew,

This is a beautiful story. Magic to read and apply an imagination to.

I always have to wonder "What if...." Just "What if...." She sounds wonderful! I wonder if she thinks of you. I am sure she does.

Ships passing in the night! You have to be thankful for the gift of memory!

I appreciate your account / story.

Congratulations Richard! I'm also one of the blessed and got my first Rolex from my wife. Treat her like a queen, and wear your nice timepieces in good health.
