The 16710 Pepsi with the 3186 movement is not exactly cheap here either. I have seen a couple of postings in the TRF For Sale section asking around 11 big ones for a used one and I believe DavidSW recently had a 3186 BNIB Pepsi for sale around the 13G area. Prices creeping up here, too!

Guys its pretty simple. When these grey dealers/trusted sellers go looking for product at watch shows,etc....they get a real good ,up to the minute, market sense of how difficult it is to get certain pieces. If the pros feel a certain piece is continually difficult to source, prices go up. Supply and demand. Oh and these watch shows are an international affair in that dealers from the states, europe, asia are usually pretty well represented and demand for a hot Rolex watch,ie. like pepsi 3186 and 11610lv ,comes from all over the world.

I guess the Japanese really pride themselves with the cars they make referring to watch service as an overhaul.

+1 that is why I am keeping mine.

A friend working for Rolex in Switzerland told me they built only 10.000 of them. They will be rare a at some point.

NOS Rectangular M serial with 3186 goes for almost 19.000 EUR in Germany and Netherlands so the price in Japan is not even that bad.

This is not good for me, as I want to add a 16610LV to my collection in the future. I'm not ready to buy right now, but neither do I want to stand on the sidelines and watch the price go up for this watch.

Buying those 3186s 5 years ago would have brought you a handsome return on your investment. How many Rolex watches in today's market can that be said for, that are fetching nearly double MSRP!? Like it or not, numbers don't lie! And one thing is for sure...."them haters, they guna hate!"

Agree 100% here with you pal. It's strange but true. Just less than 3 years old when I was looking for one, the going price was around USD8.5-9k. Look at them now??!!

There are many detractors out there saying it'll crash... Till now, I've not seen the slightly sign of that. Only time will tell...

I hate to admit it but I've been really wanting to buy Kanye's adidas sneakers which are really hard to find. Been looking on eBay, and I stumbled across someone who sold their original store receipt for $50. A receipt from footlocker. People will buy anything.

Yes they were.

I remember seeing Japanese tourists coming into the local Rolex dealer whilst on holidays or on business here in OZ and it was common for them to be asking about the availability of 14270's and 114270's.

I was on the waiting list at the time and got caught with the massive price increase(approx 30%) that accompanied the introduction of the 3130 movement with the 114270.
I think OZ may have been one of the cheapest places in the world to buy a Rolex prior to the increase.

On reflection I think I spent way too much time at the AD
The watch was lovely though
And the very last one I sold

Well that is nothing.
In the Netherlands they sell M serial (3186) with Rectangular or Stick dial in Mint condition for 18.000 EUR. While the NOS goes for 20-23K EUROS.

Amazing prices. Just wonder how much (percentage wise) discount would dealers in Japan give, assuming if any at all.
I'm referring to pieces like those posted.
