Best $30 I ever spent.

Feeling pretty good right now.

I have done the same many times for service members and first responders. Usually anonymously.

I kind of admire the American approach to their Vets.
Australians are culturally a bit less demonstrative (cynical? repressed?) and I doubt you would ever see that happen here.
It's probably made more difficult by the fact that there is no tradition of wearing identifying Service paraphernalia (caps, badges, jackets etc) except on Anzac Day.
We treated our Vietnam Vets very badly in the early years and many suffered a lot of psychological problems due to the combination of their combat experiences and the lack of care shown on their return by both the authorities and the public generally.
The only Vets that would be recognisable would be the ones in the Veterans M/C clubs.

I am ignorant. I can't speak to how vets today get treated from
personal experience.

I'm not one. And I admire them all.

But I think the US learned from Vietnam. The Vietnam vets were treated terribly.

I always try to do what I can for vets. All of them. My greatest regret is not going into the armed services and I've nothing but respect for all vets. From any country.

But it's the Vietnam vets I go the extra mile for.

Yes Seth, I think we learned a lot here too.
Unfortunately the damage was done and for many Vets it's too late for us to remedy the damage, although there has been a lot done to let them know that we do now value their sacrifice and are sorry and ashamed about the way they were treated.

Nice gesture, he won't forget it. I am a police officer and have been on the receiving end of such a kind act a couple of times, really makes a person feel good. I was eating with my 18 man team once and someone paid the entire bill, we were utterly shocked and have no idea who it was.

I'm currently watching the England vs France football match which is obviously a very sombre affair.

I've logged in to TRF and I've read nothing but feel good threads!

Seth, that truly is a wonderfully kind gesture.

great gesture

unfortunately the public here in the uk have less respect for especially LEO, if a police car is seen in mcdonalds for example people get extremely angry that the police officers need to eat like any other worker ..

imo if someone did this here, the staff member would probably pocket the money and then charge the other customer as normal
