I love them both. I'll soon be in the market for a white faced chrono. The daytona and roc 41mm have some +/- 's

both screw down crowns and great finishes.

AP- date/ great movement but not in house. AP is a scratch magnet. Beautiful dial.
Daytona- in house, no date. PCLs. True classic. new Lume is nicer. More durable IMHO.

I believe the daytona would likely go first for me. That said, I love this one in RG. I know thats the the subject matter but just sayin'.....

to add- your personal preference is always the best choice and would encourage you to get whatever feels best for you at the moment. You can always trade or sell it here :D

A man investment would stay in your safe longer than sit on your wrist, an investment watch in my book would be an extremely limited watch, rare vintage Patek or Rolex

A steel Daytona used to be a solid investment, people used to buy them way above listprice used, but that was then, now you can quite easy source a steel Daytona directly from an AD, maybe not with an huge discount but anyway, so for people that have bought the Daytona a couple of years back it may not have been an solid investment as many like to think...

The Hype of the Daytona might not be dead but it is not as it used to be thats for sure...

Buy a watch as if it's the only one you get to buy in life, buy it as if it'll depreciate 50% right out the door and hold that value...

Then you might end up with a watch you love.

Or, if you insist, try to be a watch investor. Let me know how that works out.

I would take the ROC over the Daytona any day!!! It is much more attractive to my eyes at least than the Daytona.

AP is in a different league in terms of exclusivity, history, finishing,...etc.

again..not a bad investment....

I've never lost money on any rolex i have purchased and flipped ever...with annual price increases the pre-owned prices rise as well
A depreciating currency does not an investment make.

I'd buy the AP. I was ready to buy a Daytona but I find its bezel too reflective to easily read the tach and on many of the combos the subdial hands blend in. This I'm sure will be considered apostisy but to me these are design flaws and bother me. And since I had just bought an AP diver I bought a VC OC.

but if you only live and do business in one country then buying a watch can be a hedge against your currency depreciating

and it is more fun than owning gold

i have a black face ss daytona, love it and it has been reliable and very durable( no issues in 15 yrs and never serviced). i think the daytona prob has the better movement (28.8, 72hr power reserve and so forth). its a great watch, however i just purchased an ap roc. ive now come to realize like many before me that this watch is on a very different level, cant really describe it, you just have to experience it. only time will tell but i think the ap roc will be my new favorite go to watch. no really wrong decision, just different ones. good luck w/ your choice

AP stainless steel chronograph black dial 41mm vs rolex stainless steel daytona

Truthfully - I don't really think these two are even comparable - other than they are both chronographs.

Let's put the discounted and or grey markets aside and look from an overarching level - starting with MSRP - no comparison - huge difference in cost.

The movements in both are both great and have both been tested over time.

Aesthetically - there's really no comparison to the craftsmanship, detail, and finish of AP.

I have to say - when you put them both on --- you're going to be able to tell an overall difference.

I wore a Daytona daily for quite a while --- and when I purchased my first ROC - the Daytona quickly went to the back seat.

But...that's just one opinion.

And I don't think that there is a modern watch out there that I would consider an 'investment'.

👍

Roger, lets face it. I think we call them "investments" to justify the spending, or should i say investing.

Agree! Rolexes are good and exclusive quality watches but are being pumped out a million a year whereas AP´s are in the 30k´s. Furthemore they are playing in different leagues with regards to finish etc.
