I used to have a dozen SS watches and tried to wear them in rotation but some I would not wear for many weeks on end so I gradually cut down, and now I have 4 pieces which is about right for me, and I try to wear them all at least once a fortnight.

I usually switch weekly except when I get a new piece. Then I can go 2-3 weeks.

Whichever watch I choose depends on what I am doing or wearing. I wear my Submariner Date around the house or the beach (we live on the beach). The Explorer II is usually worn to work at the hospital or for routine going out. I've been using my BLNR for weekend activities, anything semi-dressy, or dinner out. I hope to add a Datejust II to the collection for true dress use and use the BLNR more.

The most number of Rolex watches I had was 10. 8 SS and 2 TT watches. Over the course of time, I would find myself wearing only about half a dozen at most on a regular rotation and at times not even as I would stick with about three or four. My collection currently has a total of six watches, 3 PM and 3 SS and I am quite happy with that. I don't think I will ever increase my collection past 7 watches, realstically 5 or 6 is my comfort zone.

I have 3 that I have in rotation. I wear one for a entire month. I have to change the date anyway at the end of the month so it seems logical to me. By the end of the month, I am really ready for a switch. The only time I mess with the rotation it if I go to Hawaii diving for a few days and then I grab the SS sub/date. I don't dive with the TT sub or my Daytona. Diving tends to put a lot of deep scratches on the watch.

Me too, exactly. It helps that I've cut my collection down to a manageable 6 watches.

My main watches in rotation currently are the 14060M, 114270, 116200, 116710BLNR, FC Peking to Paris Chrono, and the North Flag.

Whereas I used to wear a different watch every day, I now will wear one of the above watches for a several weeks at a time and then switch.

Occasionally, one of my "lesser" watches will get some wrist time between the five above, but usually no more than a week.

I like this arrangement, because it allows me to really come to appreciate a watch before I put it away and also allows me to put on a watch that has not been worn for sometimes a few months and fall for it all over again.

Over the years I have pared down my own collection to 4 pieces, which I now consider the perfect number.

It allows one watch per week worn in rotation. That ensures that in any given month every watch will be worn, appreciated, and there will be no safe queens.

I've stuck to this '4 watch rule' and weekly rotation for a while now and it seems to be working, for me at least.

I wear my Tudor Sub for daily wear. I have an el-cheapo SS dress watch I picked up at an Air Force base for Church or with a suit. I have a Casio Illuminator for jeans and athletic wear.

Not a very impressive collection from a monetary investment/perspective, however, It's mine! I love it!

Great post. Loved reading how my TRF friends rotate their watches.

Want to get a AP ROO not sure looking at this break down when I'll wear it. Without leaving one neglected.

The rotation of watches...

I rotate based on mood and what I am wearing. So sometimes I pick a watch in the morning then grab clothes to go with it. Other days I pick clothes first then select the watch.
I have 7, mostly vintage Rolex but I will trim down when I find my vintage gilt grail.
I keep an old 1016 for wearing to the gym and golf so it gets a lot of wrist time on the weekends. In the end I will probably only have 4 or 5. Gilt 5513, vintage 1675, 1016, 16613 mainly because I love the blue dial and a 16014 as a vintage dress watch. The 16613 and 16014 might go too...
I could probably manage with just a gilt Sub and gilt GMT. At this point in my life I really don't mind wearing a vintage sport watch with a suit.

I have a collection of four SS; like Chad, I'm a Rolex man and while I appreciate some other brands, none of them actually blow my skirt up.

I wear one til I get bored and feel like a change and then switch to something else. Only problem is, I have to set mine the night before as I don't shower and get dressed until about two and a half hours after I leave home.

Rotate randomly based on what I'm doing and what I feel like wearing. The fewer choices, the easier to decide and get them all wrist time I found.

Given all that is going on in the world, being able to choose from these makes the day little better.

I wear a watch for a week then change Saturday after breakfast. I have 6 and they are rotated a week at a time. All are probably equal favourites in any case.

Just depends on how I feel that day - typically I'll wear the same watch for a couple of weeks then see something here and then switch up!!

Yeah, I don't know why that is. I've tried on AP's and other brands, but they just don't do it for me. They are beautiful watches and the craftsmanship is incredible. Maybe I've just bought the Rolex marketing BS hook, line, and sinker.

I've been known to stop by at home and change watches in the middle of the day ... and I often wear one for the workday, and then put on a different one for the evening at home. My collection currently consists of a black SubC Date, three Omegas (including a SM300 Master Co-Axial and a 1966 C-case Constellation), and several inexpensive quartz watches (which mostly sit in a drawer unused). I haven't yet gotten my Accutron Spaceview back up and running - but when I do, it will rejoin the rotation.

I have 4 watches I rotate through Mon-Thur (exp2, sublv, Navitimer01, blue pelagos) for work. 3 Fri-Sun and holidays (Daytona, gmt2, DSSD). I have two Cartiers I choose from for formal occasions, weddings, or milestone events with my wife. Those 2 are sentimental pieces.

Not a strict rule per se, sometimes I'll pick randomly what to wear on any given day, but this way I get to use most pieces in the course of a month. Only exception are the dressier watches.

Usually depends on the clothes for the day. I can't go with 1 watch for a week then no point of having multiple watches and force-match them with every attire for the week.

Actually, It has become a headache for me about rotation. I have 8 decent watches + a few cheapos. Recently, I have just been too in love with my 2 Tudors and left everything in the safe.

On thanksgiving weekend I was using the stop watch function on one of my chronos and I had to pause for a minute to study the dial, to find out which one is the stop watch minute hand. I realized I don't know my watches anymore, they have become strangers and I need to get aquatinted with them again.

So I have decided to wear each watch for one full month at a time, to rekindle my love for them. I was in love with everyone of them for a special reason at the time of purchase, that's why I spent thousands of dollars on acquiring them.

So far it is 3 weeks into it and I am just wanting to wear my BBB. If this intense love for my Tudors persists, I may have to consider selling some of the fantastic 8 after the new year.

I downsized big time. Leather strap at work and leather/bracelet on the weekend. My preference is straps primarily now.

I've made an alliteration game out of it...
Monochrom Monday (SubC/Moonwatch)
Tuesday bluesday (BLNR/Deville Orbis)
Worldtimer Wed. (IWC or GMT)
Throwback Thurs. (vintage 5513 or BBN)
Freestyle Fri. (Whatever feels right)
Speedy Saturday (moonwatch)
Sub Sun. (SubC or 5513)

If course rule number one is follow your whims.

Acquiring this piece has really put a damper on my watch rotation strategy.

I generally wear a watch for about a week or so, and then switch it up if I'm feeling like a change.

If I feel like I can't get to something for too long a time, it's time for something to go.

1) The whole POINT of having a collection is so we don't have to spend money every time we want something new. :)

1-a) If that means that one doesn't get worn for months on end, I'm fine with that. The time passed makes that watch that much "newer".

2) If, over time, there is one that _never_ seems to get picked as your "new" watch, it's time to flip that one out of the collection and go for something really new.
I agree.
