Nicely worded.
IMO there is no excuse for saying bad language, let alone writing it

Sometimes in the heat of the moment I say something I soon regret. However as slow as I type that could never happen unless I was T.U.I.. Anyway I enjoy this as a clean and friendly place to visit and read, learn and sometimes show and tell watches. If I wanted to visit a "locker room" I have plenty of those saved in favorites.

One bad apple
I too found some of the comments in that thread tasteless and offensive. I propose that TRF implement a flagging option for users. That is, allow us to flag a thread for the moderators to review. Not sure if this is available already, but I sugest a little button at the corner of each post.
Not keen on censorship, but on maintaining standards for behavior here at TRF. |

Rules are rules. They ain't there to be broken.
If people wanna bust the rules and treat others with disrespect then I'm happy to see them booted. In my experience here, the mods usually offer a polite warning, if ignorant trolls wanna carry on their abuse of others then I side with the mods...kick them out!!!!!!! It's a shame that as the forum seems to grow (I'm under no illusions, I'm still a relative noob) we will get some people sign up just to disrupt and tell us that Rolex sucks etc. This is natural in society...I have to be honest, in today's cynical world I'm surprised so many of us can congregate in one place and all get on so well. Here's to Rolex and here's to the best forum around. J |

I think that's not only true, but that the Mod Staff is very sophisticated, and even with the large size of the membership, is quite capable of distinguishing between friends kidding around, and members becoming abusive. EXCELLENT point. best, dan |

well said all.. I agree... lets keep up the high standards and keep enjoying ourselves!!
Point: I am sure that these 'Trolls' only sign up to create a 'stir' in the forum.... I am a noob (to TRF and forums in general) and I have noted a few of them so far. Older TRFers...you guys notice the same??? :-) |

My parents, my military service, 8 years of college, and being a member of Rotary are my values making places in life. This loss of respect is evident everywhere today.
In Betsy's store she has parents who come in with their parents all the time. The children are allowed to run loose and things get broken. Parents take no responsibility for this and, if she mentions it to the parent, all have walked out with the child in hand, never offering to pay restitution at all. They have taught the child that this kind of behavior is acceptable. I see it in the schools where the lack of respect is evident towards the teachers and discipline is not allowed. I see it in business where the customer is wrong. I see it in the court systems where most of my work is done in front of the judge and the person is standing there with no parenting that has taken place. I see it in the parents of the adult child that is still trying to make it like there is something wrong with the system that the child finds itself in rather than the child itself. I've got parents that are still offering excuses for their adult child's behavior. Many of them are still trying to blame it on a psychiatric issue such as attention deficit disorder or something else. You never heard of people going in to places of employment and shooting everyone in sight years ago. You also did not have kids doing this in our school systems like Colombine. What makes this tight little community work is discipline and the display of good manners and behavior. Otherwise we become everything that I see around myself every day in my working world. Then this little escapism that I engage in here becomes exactly what I get exposed to everyday in the court system and no longer becomes fun. I then have to defend myself against someone who wants to be a jerk just because they can. So I for one support the moderators in keeping high standards here. Play nicely folks and all else works itself out. Terry Newton

Hello All,
I am sorry but I have to disagree with some of the comments in this thread. How are new people to know what is acceptable when they read the words "Tosser and Bastid" in a lot of threads ? It does not bother me at all, but miss-spelling a word does not alter it's meaning IMO. I understand that many of you have been here a long time and know each other well but the facts are that many people will not. I think that it would be a great shame to see TRF fall victim to it's own success.....With I believe over 12000 new members this year, and up to No.2 There will always be people that want to stir things up (Trolls ?)and I have complete faith in the Mods to deal with them, all I would suggest is that the members support the staff by using the "smilies" instead of the words. Regards as always Mike. |

Mike
I think there is a difference when comparing the terms you highlighted to the recent behaviour where the F word is used in addition to the vulgar slang for female organs and the general lack of respect to all members, including our female representatives. With respect to the terms highlighted, fair play by changing the spelling you are not diluting the effect of the term but those responsible for using them do use smilies which highlights the tongue in cheek nature of it. Anybody could also quickly flick their gaze across to the post counts which show that these are usually long term members ribbing each other. We were all newbies once (many still are in the grand scheme). I for one have never deliberately set out to shock, offend or rile fellow members and I have never resorted to using some of the more abrasive colloquialisms...no matter how many tossers or bastids ware being bandied about. This place, as should all others be about respect. Would you expect to finish your meal in a nice restaurant if you resorted to some of these troll tactics? It should be the same here! J |
